After Trier, we headed to Cologne to see the cathedral. Cologne is a big city and we had a heck of time finding the parking and then lugging our stuff into the hotel--a little stressful :). Once we got settled, we headed straight to the cathedral. It's a bit like the grand canyon in that you can't appreciate just how big it is until you experience in person. I couldn't get far enough back to get the ...

Made a heavy landing in light snow and waited for 45 minutes for some extremely wet bags to finally arrive. However the most 'exciting' part for the whole family was the opportunity to catch up with Marie our host ...

... that I had been in last year - the image was from about 1910, and showed a family posing. A man is drawing water from a nearby well, and others are hanging out of top floor windows, probably staring at what would have been considerable commotion in the street below. Another image from Paris in June 1914 allows you to stare into the eyes of those long dead as a family sits outside. The skirt or apron of a mother with a baby is startling blue, and her husband ...

... on rain. Hiked from the castle to the juncture of the Rhine and the Mosel rivers. I had seen photos of the statue there, but never imagined it was so HUGE! We were tired, hungry and getting wet, so we didn't climb the steps. We started looking around for a place to eat and nothing struck our fancy. We headed back toward the center of town.

Eventually we found a traditional German restaurant where we could make out a few ...
