Historical Traveler Reviews of Innseagan House Hotel Fort William

Polarised - or proprietorial perfidy perhaps

from A TripAdvisor Member
I can't believe the difference in views about this place, which my wife and I had the misfortune to stay in September of this year - truly dreadful! Overpriced, dirty, unconcerned staff, dirty rooms, all public areas tatty & dingy.

On a busy main road in front of the hotel, it's cut into the cliff bank to the rear. No views here!

Strange how every time there's a bad review, a good one gets written to top it! Perhaps the proprietor's canny enough to always have the last word?

We reported this place to the local Tourist Board - needless to say, it doesn't feature in their accommodation lists.

What a wonderful Place

I find the other reviews on this site staggering as my partner and I had a wonderful time at Innseagan. The staff were friendly and helpful, I found the hotel had a warm and friendly atmosphere. We couldnt believe what good value the mini break was - will definitely be visiting again.

Very Happy Customer!

I stayed at this 'hotel' a couple of times, the second time was just to confirm how awful the first time was! No way are the room rates worth £120 - they are having a laugh!!

They did not provide porridge for breakfast - they said they didn't know how to make it. Poor restaurant service. Rubbish was left in the bar which we had to keep stepping over and there was no ice. Frequently wet stocks kept running out.

Staff were friendly if ineffectual - there was a certain Dunkerque spirit and the guests helped out with cleaning etc.!!!!

Truly truly awful!!! They should start an Innseagan House Hotel Survivors Group and I'll be a life member!!!!

Lovely break

We have just returned from Fort William and had a lovely stay at the Innseagan hotel, where the staff were friendly and the food and services were very good.

All in all a great value for money first time trip to Scotland.

Stay Away

Shoddy accommodation, worth less than 20 GBP per night. I've stayed in cleaner, better decorated hostels. It's a DUMP.

Stay away; it's run by Mr Parker who has a very bad reputation for selling timeshare.

He tries to sell this place as 120 GBP per night!

For 120 GBP you don't expect mould in the bathroom, cracks in the corridors and a porta-cabin round the back.

STAY AWAY!

Worse than the worst

Approached by two pleasant & convincing exhibitors at a garden show! (sound familiar? see previous reviews) we two well travelled tourists arrived to find a long row of pleasant looking B&Bs with this run down loosely termed 'hotel' in the middle. On main & busy A82 road not loch side as promised. Very, very disappointed. Small dark room, windows looked out on to a vertical jungle of hill foliage (a foot away from said window) & an empty beer can or two. Overflowing ashtrays & dirty glasses in empty rooms & bar. Receptionist not even interested when we complained & moved out to another 'proper' hotel! (realise now she must be used to this). We deliberated as to whether to book with these people at the garden show but went for it. Sold as a special deal - £120 per night hotel!!! Ive been in plenty & it certainly does NOT fit or warrant even the special deal price. Not easily taken in - but feel we have been in this instance. Wished we had seen web site prior to booking! This short 'special deal' became an expensive experience. Overall opinion? you guessed it - dont touch with barge pole. West of Scotland area though? - beautiful scenery to die for.

Innseagan House Or In the road house

My wife and I were swayed by two lovely reps of the Hotel at a Christmas Craft Fair, to stay at this hotel, we were informed that it was friendly & charming with splendid views of the Loch & Ben Nevis for a little extra money and fantastic food in a popular town. We looked forward to going as it was our 5th wedding anniversary. The drive up was spectacular, as we've never been to scotland and we love travelling we could not believe that we had missed out thus far. We drove around the Loch on approach to Fort William and still the scenery was stunning. Then we came across the Hotel in a long line of bed & breakfasts. We laughed to ourselves as it looked a bit well (NAFF) but we went in and found the staff ever so friendly although no lift so carried heavy suitecase up narrow stairs myself. Walked into the room and was met by a very badly decorated room with a uncomfortable double bed after being told that all ther beds were king size. Paper thin walls and the heating on full in the middle of August and the window shut. No fridge & poor shower room. Looked out of the window and the views were lovely if you could get past the fact that the main road runs past the hotel by about 10 meters, No views of Ben Nevis here though as its the other side of town. The Road was busy all day and also at night waking me 2-3 times which is no mean feat as I sleep like the dead most of the time.

Sat downstairs in there lounge area and again staff were delightful allthough no ice for drinks. Was advised of a good place to eat, acctually the only place to eat other than our hotel or so it seemed in this twilght zone Town. Had one meal in the Hotel, can only be discribed as dull over cooked and not very good, laughed to ourselves as another table asked for a jug of water and was told that they only had one jug and we had it allready. We decided to cut our losses and go to Edinburgh a day earlier than we had paid for. Dissapointing dreary & badly located, not value for money but staff very friendly. Our advise is if you are going to stay here say to yourself its a bed & breakfast and then you'll only be slightly dissapointed.

Outstanding Scottish Hospitality

From the moment I arrived in this hotel I was made extremely welcome by everyone, nothing was too much trouble. The hotel was very clean, upmarket and well run by the small team. The food was extremely good and well priced. I would definately reccommend this place to anyone as good value for money and I will definately be returning next year!
