... on and not long after, Iman, led us a little way off the path and he pointed out a big male sleeping in a tree probably 500 metres away. We could see him really clearly fast asleep through the binos. The differences between Bornean and Sumatran orangs were really clear once we'd seen both in the flesh, the Bornean orangs are smaller and darker and some males have their fabulous cheeks, while the Sumatran orangs are bigger, more ginger and shaggy and the males have their fabulous ...

We'd thought the journey was going to take about two hours, but it ended up taking four, making me more and more worried in case we didn't like the place because moving on wouldn't be that easy. ... It was poisonous though so we weren't allowed to touch it. Until... They took the knife I was using to cut the black passionfruit with and chopped it's poisonous teeth off (they grow back so there's no harm to nature done here!) Scott was first to hold it, I wasn't going near the thing! After lunch we trekked down the massive hill, it was slippery and we basically had to climb and hold on to all the vines whilst going down. Even that made us hot and sweaty and we were in the shade ...

... we headed back to Cemoro Lawang, again crossing the Sea of Sand, for a well-deserved breakfast of rice and noodles and another long nap.

We left the Bromo region at 9am the following morning on a local bus to Bali, a journey that was advertised as taking 10 hours. However we didn’t arrive into a hostel until 5am the following morning after a horrible 20 hour trip involving dodgy bus drivers, police stations, a late night ...
