Breakfast on the balcony was a treat of local fresh fruits, local tea and and toast with REAL butter ! We spent a few days here in Sanur relaxing/reading on the white sandy beach, rock pooling and swimming in the warm sea - all with Factor 30+ on. We met some expats one evening, one in particular 'Uncle Will' was from Milton Keynes and was a retired PADI (diving) instrutctor with 15 years experience. Uncle Will expressed his opinion that the Island of Lembongan (off the coast of Sanur) was th...
Sanur, Indonesia danandrosemarieWow. It's officially been 24 hours since I got on the first plane in San Francisco, and I'm quite tired. Problem is, it's 5pm Bali time and I still have at least 5 hours left before I can safely call it bed time. I have Ambien. And I'm looking forward to using them. My airline of choice for this trip was China Airlines. A few impressions....first of all, the stewardesses were gorgeous. I don't know why that stuck out in my mind (I'm usually not into checking out hot, female, flight attendants...
Sanur, Bali, Indonesia greldSo I just realized that all of my travel blog subscribers from my previous trip are now getting emails about my new trip. So hello! To be honest, I'm finding it much more difficult than last time to find the time to write. Internet cafes aren't as plentiful as they were in India, and being in a front of a computer is getting harder and harder as my time progresses in Bali. But most recently, I haven't been writing because I was participating in my 5 day meditation retreat with Art of Liv...
Sanur, Bali, Indonesia greldWe were on a morning flight from Singapore to Bali to meet up with Dad and Susan for our long-awaited reunion. It was wonderful to see them. They look exactly the same - good. It felt like 110 degrees at the airport. Our driver, Jeffrey took us to our hotel - Grand Bali Beach Resort in Sanur in the south west part of Bali. We spent the rest of the afternoon catching up and relaxing by the pool drinking Bintang (Indonesian beer). We headed to the other side of southern Bali to a restaurant cal...
Bali, Indonesia tracyhuckWe're close to Oz now. On the menu, I find an Australian breakfast as well as the usual European and American. Sanur really is a dull resort. Pensioners cycle around the Grand Bali Beach Hotel golf course or lounge by the pools that fringe the beach path. The beach has the smell of weed revealed at low tide. Boat rental agents harangue you for trade. I'm here mostly for the only Qantas branch in Bali. Last month's rainy weather reached my flight tickets tucked in my backpack and washed all th...

... I'm used to, or that I even like to do actually. After taking a relaxing morning and having breakfast together, a few of the girls finally left and a few of us others went to downtown Ubud to explore and look through the shops. I desperately wanted to buy something considering how cheap things were, but I didn't want to rush into any purchases, so I spent my day just getting a feeling of what was for sale here. Well... I did buy one thing. I bought a necklace that ...
Ubud, Indonesia snclark8... reverse gear beeping), whistle (human and other birds) and speak in many different languages. Lisa taught him how to say "Canada" which took all of five minutes. The mynah bird talks all day which keeps us laughing while we are lying down at the side of the pool. I am not sure what the other bird is, as I've never seen anything quite like him before, but the mynah bird replicates every noise that we've heard him make. It is hard to believe that we are in ...
Kuta, Bali, Indonesia aaronpolarbear... guidance. All I know is that I want to do yoga and get to India, and I have to leave Bali to obtain my visa, as there is no Indian embassy here. My options were limited to Jakarta, Singapore, or Kuala Lumpur. I have absolutely zero desire to go to Jakarta, Singapore is expensive and I've already been, and so I landed on KL. I haven't been there yet, so it'll be fun to experience a new place, although I have a feeling I'm going ...
Bali, Indonesia truddick... of the walk was the unbelievably green rice fields that seem to cover every available portion of land that isn't covered by houses. The picture do not do justice to the vibrant colors and tranquil ruralness (is that a word?) of this landscape. Our second hike was even more tranquil and more rural as it wandered up a trail (no cars) on the Campuan ridge which heads up and up out of Ubud into yet more rice paddies. However, this landscape was even more impressive as it afforded ...
Ubud, Bali, Indonesia jenandjeffmilum... and stores we will venture into later when we stay up closer to the city. We were told it would take 1 hour to get to the city, but we just drove and drove and drove. The highlights were seeing the volcano that last erupted in 1994... the clouds lifting just as we headed out to enjoy the view. We may go back to hike it at some point. The coffee and spice plantation was lovely. We got to try coffees ...
