Leaving Fredericksburg, I drove the now familiar path to Kerrville and got to enjoy the curvy trip to Medina one last time. But, surprise, the road past Medina was even better! I tooled along another day on the road, John Mellencamp blaring, windows down, hair a bird’s nest, alternately singing and smiling. Beautiful day, nice drive, gorgeous weather, heading to Comfort. ... family vacation flashbacks on the drive: the highways here have little picnic spots on the side of the road, which made me remember eating fried chicken and pimento cheese sandwiches out of the cooler, drinking chocolate milk over ice with my mom, dad and little brother. ... This was another surprise. We didn't know what to expect, and found a stunning museum that had exquisite sculptures and paintings of the West, done by contemporary artists. We had originally planned on 30 - 45 minutes, but spent almost two hours there. We highly recommend it to anyone going to the Hill Country. ... Turkey's Peak which has great views of the entire park. We did the climb called Butter Ball (5.8 Sport) on Turkey's Peak...I highly recommend for a short and fun climb. This is located toward the entrance of the park on the west side.
