... see along the way. The only walking part is to the beach and on the beach. The walk to the beach is a half a mile trail through two wetlands. The birds are incredible. Painted Buntings, Tanagers, Bluebirds, Warblers, Herons, Woodpeckers, Osprey, Eastern Screech Owl, Doves, white Ibis, to name a few. We do not know them all. There are ducks and there are turtles, alligators, deer, wild turkeys and fox squirrels. The "sighting" of the day was an otter, a rather large one at that. The ...

In Live Oaks Campground you can hear
the surf pounding against the beach but, you'er not at the beach. The
smell here is not the smell of the ocean, it is the smell of the
smell of a salt marsh. Here it smells of the earth's primordial soup,
stirred twice a day by forces even greater than the ocean itself.

Here, is a true Maritime Forest filled
        with giant long ...

Well, we had a little bit of excitement around here yesterday. We all went for our long walk in the morning. We saw the egrets nesting in the trees over the pond by the golf course. There were hundreds of them! After our walk and my humans had breakfast Daddy went to 'hit golf balls' again. I hope he doesn't hurt them! Mommy and I went for a short walk and on the way back I found part of a candy bar! I picked it up quickly, but Mommy was ...

then a major resupply and default camping with Wal-Mart. Next
morning, a stop at a Vets Clinic, food for Gertie, then out to the
island, some twenty miles from town, with no plans to return for two

Only 13 miles and a world of difference
between these two parks! The hard sloping beach, with lots of shells,
