Leaving Los Osos, we intended to follow hwy 1 up the coast but a huge landslide had shut part of that route down so we went around on hwy 101 and then back tracked on 1 from Carmel so we could hike and stay overnight at Big Sur. ... an Australian tow truck. Needless to say, the tow trucks over here are enormous - sort of like semi trailers. Apparently Arnie tried to introduce some extra road tax on SUVs but you can imagine how far that got.

Well, we're home now after two glorious days in the magnificent California grape country. The wines are fantastic. We've had a very good education in the finer things. And done it on the cheap to boot.
