... haven’t come through yet. I thought that if the sockeye were at Hell’s Gate the Coho salmon would definitely be here, but no. Apparently, coho and chum salmon are a little later – next week. We will check them out when we are going to Vancouver to leave as you have to pass through Hope.

After the disappointment of the salmon, we went to the Othello Tunnels. This is the site of an old railway line ...

... The bridge was amazing, and we could see the new one from the old one.

The trains along this Valley are incredible. They follow the river along and there is a track along both sides of the river..One Canadian Pacific and the other Canadian National, but who goes on what line I haven't a clue. The walk is basically flat as you would expect from a former railway track. The first tunnel was dark enough for me to appreciate the torch, but it wasn't essential. The height and steepness of the gorge were spectacular, with the river still carving the area. The engineering in creating the tunnels was equally amazing. The then Prime Minister did not want the road too close to the border in case aggressive Americans would try to capture ...
