... hitting the tourists. We arrive at our hotel and our adorable porter, Marco, checks us in and shows us how to work the actual turn of the century lift...up to our room. We snack on gorgeous cheese and prosciutto Cliffy and Sandy have gracious provided for us...then we are off to see the city. What a city it is! ... originally scheduled (2 PM instead of 5 PM. There *is* a silver lining to this rain cloud.
We landed in Frankfurt at 11:20. We need to make a connection. Here is the play-by-play.
11:50 boarding. 12:20 departure.
11:25 get off plane
11:30 get into customs line
11:35 get into security line
11:55 get out ...
... and I couldn't stop taking pictures. We meandered through the city along the canals for a few hours. There was no aim to our wandering and we ended up a bit disoriented by dusk. (The sun doesn't go down until 10:30 here!) As soon as we found the hotel again we practically ran to our rooms to go to bed in order to have enough energy to explore Amsterdam tomorrow!
... and the burger was stunning, a real taste extravaganza.
The main eating area of the restaurant was outside and interestingly (for Kiwis) each chair had a folded polarfleece blanket on the back of it. I sat on mine, as the metal seat was very cold, although I was tempted to wrap it around my legs, but I knew that it would be cold when it came time to leave. We were fairly early but already there were 5 or 6 diners wrapped ...
