... up with societies whose appellations are made up of three Greek letters – Phi Beta Kappa, for example.
Lunch at the Amalia Hotel in the new village of Delphi was tasty, and another good opportunity to begin some new friendships. With the political parades in Athens there were difficulties in getting all the tour group back to their hotels and we found ourselves dropped off at Syntagma Square after a circuitous ride through the city to drop off others ...
Day... (Giving up on this - no longer accurate as have failed to count no. of days spent some places!)
So nice, we decide to spend another day here. Lyn wants to go and look around the town, and I am keen to get my boots on and do a bit of proper walking. It's a fine day and there is a short-ish trek up to the Throne of Apollo up behind the town.
I set off in fine fettle: excellent path ...
... Don't. So decide to press on to Delphi, now we on this road. Most spectacular approach into heartland of Greece: massive mountains on all sides! Huge perspectives; staggering roads.
As we head up to the ancient seat of worship and myth, sun legendarily breaks through!
Find magnificent camping - views down to Gulf of Corinth. The ancients called this the 'navel of the world': you can see why.
Museum a must; well-presented artefacts & ...
... us to give us the latest news and pictures as they see it on TV.
I try to forget the incident for a couple of minutes, and I take a couple of photos from the round area until we get that phone call telling us that everything is ok.
Kamena Vourla is a tourist costal area. Both Greeks and foreigners visit it the whole year round. A few kms from this village ...
... on the edge of the mountain and eat some delicious greek meals in the breathtaking view. Wake up in the morning, and go walk on the streets. It is not so hot early in the morning and you'll find it even more pleasing than in the night. If you go there in winter, keep in mind that in Parnassos, which is higher in the mountain, you will find the best greek location for winter sports.
... TWICE) to let people off because "their house is nearby". And my personal favourite: - No one knows anything about any place outside of Athens. While I might not know the bus time table between Christchurch and Invercargil off the top of my head I can at least confirm that there is a road connecting them. You cannot even get this much out of those who work in the industry. The one in Delphi had this amazing little bus stop, which was run by a man who ...
Delphi, Central Greece, Greece bubba_oliver... koncu wyprac siebie i rzeczy. Noc ponownie byla tak ciepla, ze nawet nie rozkladalismy namiotu. Po prostu rozlozylismy karimaty po drzewem. ENGLISH: We got up at 7am and already at 8 we were standing in the road. Second day stuck in the same place. When it was 9:15 and we still couldn`t catch anyone, we gave up and stopped a bus that was just coming towards us. We had enough of ...
Delphi, Central Greece, Greece bogna... my friend Christie and I were eating pizza in the park when a black bird swooped down and hit me in the face, knocking the pizza out of my hands! I have a witness too! In California when I was out bodyboarding, I swear I'm not lying, a face jumped out of the water and hit me on the face!! Seriously. I don't have proof of that one though because nobody saw it. Anyway, point is they don't seem to like me much!
Delphi, Central Greece, Greece alifebeinglivedWith the car, Chad, Jackie, Henry and I drove to Delphi for the day. What a long drive - I believe it was at least 3 hours and nothing much to see from Patras to Delphi. It was a treat to stop and have a coffee break in Delphi before heading to the ancient site. What a massive valley Delphi is located in. Why the heck would they build a site in such a remote area? How did the people get there? Alot of ancient ...
Delphi, Central Greece, Greece travelmenu... fields of crops along the sides of the roads. It reminded me very much of home. The only real bad part was that it was raining and cold and we were not prepared for it. When we arrived in Delphi we visited the Sanctuary of Apollo, the Treasury of the Athenians and the Archaelogical Museum. One of the places that was my favorite of this part of the trip was the Stadium where some of the early Olympians ...
