Out of the widow Bahrain looks like lots of dust with skyscrapers on. Inside it is a strange mix of Christmas decorations lots of tour groups who look like they might be going on pilgramage, 25k rolexes in duty free, mcdonalds, costa and free internet to keep us amused. We've got 2hrs to kill - body clocks already out of sink! Am going to try and learn some nepalese from a podcast.
Bahrain, Bahrain paulandvickiI must admit that it took them an effort to coax me but the trip I made was eventful. Well, I am based at Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia and my relatives at Jeddah invited me over more than once. I had been putting off my visit simply because of pure laziness, no doubt, but basically my life here is office and back, so I guess I just got used to that. Well, our Ramadan holidays were coming up and I decided to get on the bus to Jeddah (1500 Km away), mailnly because there were no flights ...

We're heading home.
The last country is a stop-over in Bahrain (for 2 hours) as we fly through the night back to England
We wanted to surprise a few folks so have sneaked home quietly.

Never the less, Bahrain International Airport looked very nice at midnight, all lit up. Manama, Bahrain paulngailNot much - just waiting at the airport for the flight! Bahrain was both nicer and more boring than I thought, the weather is a lot more forgiving but it's not worth more than about 3 days exploration tops.. Unless you like to get really nittygritty :P
Bahrain, Bahrain m_eidanI wanted to put on a few pics of downtown Manama before I leave the island tonight. It's time to explore the place for about 6 hours and I will have more pics of the sights and scenery in Bahrain for you as soon as I can find an internet connection later on India. These pics for now aren't that great at all since they are just of the few blocks in downtown. It's too hot to walk anywhere further to get any of the cool ...
Manama, Bahrain atlpilot36I stopped by Bahrain, a small island in the Persian Gulf, to visit some friends who are working here and to take a break from finding places to stay, sights to see, food to try, etc. It has been very relaxing and rejuvenating as I hoped it would be. Having been here once before I knew there wasn't much I wanted to see (and there really isn't much to see anyway) and the goal was to hang out with some friends and relax. It's been a good time meeting ...
Manama, Bahrain g_shook... car wash, small store, and a car accessories shop. It is very common to see gas station complexes like this in Saudi. Again, luck was with us (although Dawn would bemoan our bad luck that led to the situation in the first place J) and the tire shop had no customers. They were able to get the Trooper in right away. Looking at my tires they were all shaking their head. "Mister, mister, these tires are from 2002. No good Mister." Looking at the tires, they were right. The ...
Manama, Bahrain shadocg... Saturday nights! Give me the camaraderie of the Everyman, the smell of exhaust, the MacGyver spirit of home repair! Money and all its derivatives were just invented to make certain people feel more important. But, far from feeling like an international anarchist conspiracist, this thought just made me feel sort of depressed, like knowing an asteroid will wipe out your town. Of course, it probably isn't true. Many people who appear otherwise outwardly do in fact have good souls ...
Manama, Bahrain traveese... business. In fact, for a dive, it was so busy that it had to have fit one of the two rules for such places: · The food is outstanding · The food is cheap They had two carhops who ran out to the cars which were driving by (and blocking traffic), took the orders and money, and ran the food back out after the customers had turned around up the block. We were lucky enough to find a parking space, so we went in to take a look. We ordered grape leaves (dolmades), hummus, a Turkish salad ...
