Gardone Riveria and Salo

A travel blog entry by rcampbellburns on Jul 26, 2014

Today was a pack up and quiet day. There was a monster thunder storm overnight and the rain was steady until mid-late morning. We decided to try and see what Raffa was like, it looked interesting from the road that we have frequently used on our way south around the lake. When we got there, we drove straight through, there was a lovely church but apart from that - nothing else....not even a gelataria!! So we headed to Salo instead and parked at ...

... was a house speciality and I think something that inspired many of the Campbell-Burns' risotto recipes since we had it all those years ago. Hamish ordered a tomato pasta and then preferred by duck parpadelle so we swapped. The road cut through the mountains and there were plenty of long tunnels on the road to Limone - the scenery was amazing but the weather was hampering us a bit. It was lightly raining and it made the view across the lake a bit blurred. We parked by the ...

Over breakfast we decided where to go today by ferry - we settled on Bardolino, on the eastern side of the lake, approximately opposite Gardone Riveria. We had to get a shimmy on as the ferry departed at 10.23am and we had started the day leisurely! We made the ferry with five minutes to spare and the journey across the lake took about 1 hour 15 minutes with a stop at Garda on the way. The scenery from the water was spectacular and we sat outside at the front of the ferry for the journey. ...

Lago Di Garda - E il vincitore è ...

... favore. And the winner is ... Torri del Benaco. In this small town there is a castle, a tiny scenic harbour, a great strip of restaurants and bars on the waterfront. It doesn't get the same number of tourists as other more popular towns, and that adds to its appeal. It's quiet, relaxed and a great spot for a swim, a drink and a meal. Judges' decision is final for now, but why not get around the lake and make up your own list? Non c'e ...
