I got up about 7.25 to make sure we left the hostal in time to catch the bus. We checked out and went to the bus stop. We got dropped off only a couple of minutes away from the train station. I got out tickets, which were cheaper than expected (always a nice bonus!) and sat near the platform to wait for the train. Gaf was mithering about not having the right ticket and being booted off the train, I said it would be fine, which it was! One and a half hours on the train from Alicante to Murcia....
Almeria, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands nicola.hudsonI didn't sleep very well so I didn't wake up until 9. I went out to get some breakfast then we had a snooze. Had the breakfast then got ready to go to the castle. We got in for free because we are EU citizens (so it is worth something then) and were given a guide. It was really big and we were in there for ages taking photos because there were some great views. We sat to have a drink and suddenly became surrounded by cats, at least 12 of them.....it's as if they know Gaf is allergic! From the...

... I'm laying on the sand, applying sunscreen over sand and just making a royal mess of myself. And. Prepare yourself. I officially went European sunbathing!!! There were two older women by me and nobody else. They were topless so I took a deep breath and joined their fashion statement. I have to say, it was quite freeing. But I still don't think I'm ready for the nudist beach down the coast.

Anyway!

So fine, I traipse home with my sand-covered body and come into ...
El Cabo de Gata, Andalusia, Spain josiezimI am on my way to Cabo de Gata from Granada. I, as usual, didn't do diligent enough research and so ended up in Almeria with a 4 hour layover. Normally I would be ecstatic about this as that is plenty of time to drop my bags at the station, roam around on a city bus and get a feel for one more Spanish city. However. Almeria doesn't believe in baggage drops at the station. In an "I am Josie. I am American." moment, I walked to a hotel to leave my bags there. No. Neither being ...
Almeria, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands josiezim... with plastic td greenhouses that grow fruits and vegetables. You can not find a single area that doesn't have a plastic greenhouse. The mountains are very dry and rocky. We stopped in a town called Almerimar for lunch - a fishing village and big windsurfing and water sport area. The town has a marina and yacht club. There were tons of boats in the marina, but the town was pretty well shutdown for the winter. Only a handful of cafes were open. It was pretty quiet. We ...
Almeria, Andalusia, Spain stacicheck... the day from Olly: "We came down here to see what it would be like to sleep here Chris. We the discovered its the kind of place that goats get brutally masacred. Therefore, Its not a good place to sleep, is it." Despite Ollys compelling arguement the thing that changed my mind was the sketchy guy the kept cycling near us. When he returned with more friends to look at us I thought F**k this, lets do some night riding. The decision was further reinforced when we left because we ...

Almeria, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands quatrequart... its corner towers once held canons. Situated in the centre is the great altar with its wealth of priceless art work including a tabernacle dating from the 18th century, designed by Ventura Rodriguez, paintings by Alonso Cañón; a typical Andalucian altar piece made by Araoz; and the statue of St. Indaletius, the patron saint of Almeria, sculpted by Saizillo. The spacious interior has a Gothic ribbed ...
Almeria, Spain katstravel... we saw an aerial combat between a couple of birds, a seagull and bizzarely a parrot (bear in mind we were 5 miles from land). Eventually the parrot took up station at the top of our mast and then, by stages, descended to the boom and eventually, after a good preening, fell asleep on our solar panels. He was grey with blue edges to his wings & a red & yellow tummy. He sat there until we arrived in Almerimar when, with a further squawk ...
Almeria, Spain chickensafloat... dans un super endroit sous un grand arbre. On manger super bien avec apéro (et la salade de riz de Christine !) Arrivée à Almería à 16h15.
