All to celebrate the end of the sugar cane harvest and the success of the rum production!

On one day we hired a car and explored the island – marvelling at the ferocious seas of the Atlantic at Animal Flower caves and Bathsheba compared to our gently lapping, clear, warm, blue waters on the west coast ...

Escape

So, after 5 days worth of failed attempts trying to fly standby, I came to the realisation that this is probably going to be impossible for the next month at least. There were 40 other people waiting with me in standby, many of them AA staff, many of them with families and many of them completely stranded for one reason or the other - a few were stuck behind too many people in line and checkin ...

Stuck.

This is my third day trying to get out of the island on standby. I was 38/47 on the list earlier. So many families of staff members using their tickets for holiday.. It's insanity. It seems to be impossible to get out of the Caribbean right now! Hopefully I'll figure out something soon, otherwise I may have to cancel parts of my itinerary.. :(

... locals alike filled in the "audience" area, bopping and dancing, while a few of the showboating young men showcased their break dancing, popping and locking, and their "robot" up on the stage itself. It was a fantastic place to people watch, both locals and silly tourists, some of those clearly fresh of the cruise ship.

From there it was only a short bus ride back to our place up in Rockley, and after such a day, we slept like logs!
Barbados: Coast to Coast Scenic drive

It was kind of creepy walking all around them, but this is what made the whole place intriguing and captivating.

We stopped for while along the ocean to admire big huge boulders right on the shore. It was absolutey beautiful seeing them.

Our next stop was at the Highland Adventure Center where we sipped a complimentary soft drink. It was relaxing and we enjoyed the view once ...

Barbados: Sea Turtle & shipwreck snorkel

... br>
After being given a safety briefing and snorkel lesson by the guide, everyone on the boat entered the water to swim among the turtles. Mi did not take any time. Off he went in the water, as for myself, well, I was a little bit hesitant. I went in the last one. The water was pure crystalline and warm as I slowly made my way in.

Adrenaline started to take effect as I spotted underneath me four ...

BARBADOS AND THE GOOD LIFE

... Dominica and St. Kitts/Nevis. Can't guess the other? How about Austria? Cambodia's another story, subject to negotiation, and they're probably not alone. As always it's the people who make the place, and they seem genuinely nice here. It whets my appetite to see more of the Caribbean, especially the Leeward Islands, and see what I'm missing. Maybe I WILL buy citizenship somewhere. What'll Immigration tell me then? Si se puede ...

Arrival in Barbados

After 22 days of sailing, we live to tell the tale. If I have to sum up the whole trip, it would be a voyage that consists of long periods of boredom, stoccatoed with bouts of excitement trigerred by anything except the big blue sea, which includes seeing a bird hundreds of miles from any land known, a boat , a ship, a plane, a fish or a rainy cloud. If the trip was a heartbeat, it would be like that of a person who suffered a cardiac arrest, fell ...

alive and well (my shortest entry so far)

... understand it: i feel like i have a great balance of school and fun and still can keep up academically with the kids in my classes. i almost feel sorry for people that they study so much and have so little fun. i think college here represents something much different than college in the US. here it is seen solely as a way to advance, as a way to get ahead and get a better job. in the US, it is seen like that as well, but for many people (myself included), it is also seen ...

another marathon post?

... a teacher can afford to cancel a week of class; on the quarter system teachers start teaching their material ten minutes into the first class. all my classes seem fairly interesting. spanish will be fun to learn, and the teacher is from columbia, which was a bit of a relief because if he was bajan, i would have trouble understanding his english, let alone his spanish. i don't know if i've talked about the bajan dialect, but it is very fast and very difficult to understand at first ...
