... teachers at our table took all the food to give to her parents. I was OK with that because the food was OK and I ate a little of almost everything. I don't think it was anything I would have wanted to take home and eat more of! Throughout the meal the bride, Rita, changed dresses 3 different times. That means she had about 7-8 different gowns for her wedding! And they were all so pretty! I felt like she didn't even get to enjoy the reception because she ...
Taichung, Taiwan ashleysblog... today so hopefully this next week will be a little bit cooler!

This past week was my first week in the regular program. This schedule is going to take some getting used to. I now start later which then means I am staying later at night. These first 2 weeks I have a pretty flexible schedule because I only have my 3rd grade class that meets 3 times a week from 5-7PM. I am filling in my other hours by working on the Rainbow Time Magazine. This means I help out where ever ...
Taichung, Taiwan ashleysblogRain, Rain, Go Away!! It has been a very raining week here in Taiwan! I wish I knew some rainfall totals because it has rained everyday since Monday here and it is projected to continue for the next week. During the week it would be nice out until right after lunch and then it would rain for the rest of the night. It makes going places a little bit more difficult when your mode of transportation is a scooter!

This past Monday I got 3 more of my ...
Taichung, Taiwan ashleysblogBen is packing our belongings three days before we depart as I sit and resume my blogging. Where are we going, you ask? For those of you who don't know, we are off to Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, to commence our excitedly awaited journey toward teacher training at Hess Headquarters. I am actually looking forward to this, though I can’t say why. After four years of ...

I might stick around in Taichung and do some exploring on my scooter!

Until then...miss ya and love ya!

Someone then raised their hand with a question and asked, "Jilda, how many times did it take you to visit the DMV until you passed?" Jilda then sheepishly replied, "Well, no. I can't say that I have ever passed my test and managed to earn my license." Needless to say we were all in for a story. I can definitely understand the importance of having a driver's license in this ...
Taichung, Taiwan scotsblog... lake. We even went on a boat tour around the lake, with stops at various tourist spots like the small island in the middle of the lake, the Buddhist temple on the lake's shore, and what looked like the captain's front porch where his wife seemed to be cooking random seafood to sell to tourists. A man who was riding on the boat with us seemed extremely interested in the fact that he was riding the same boat as a group of six foreigners. Every time we looked at ...
Taichung, Taiwan scotsblogWell, I had to say good-bye to my third graders and prepare for my new class of 2nd grade "Ducks." I must say that I am definitely excited to be teaching a classroom full of students that will be under my guidance and instruction throughout the remaining school year. However, I am a little nervous at the thought of teaching a younger age group than third grade! The transition from teaching 8th grade social studies to early elementary school age levels has been ...
Taichung, Taiwan scotsblogToday was my official first day of teaching 2nd grade as an overseas educator, and I must say, it was a day of many ups and even a few downs as well. Let's just say that the ending of this blog entry will be a lot different than how it begins. My summer teaching schedule goes as follows: 8:00am-8:30am: Prep (organizing my class for the day) 8:30am-12:30pm: Class 12:30pm-2:30pm: Lunch break 2:30pm-4:00pm: Prep It is a very relaxed and ...

While they are waiting for their food, they can grab some reading material from their collection of magazines. When the food arrives, it comes served steaming-hot in a small toilet, while the drinks are served in mini-urinals. The wallpaper is themed with multicolored "poo" patterns. They even serve chocolate ice cream in a squatter. This restaurant ...
