Vietnam - reflections on a country

What a unique place. Vietnam has a personality that shines out next to its counterparts in the region and as a tourist you are given a genuine insight into the daily lives of the Vietnamese in lots of areas as the people just crack on with their days - they are totally uninterested in your presence. We have met the kindest people here, who, in spite of their continuous interaction with tourists whom I'm sure have tried their patience, have remained thoughtful and generous. It has been ...

... the room that the body of Ho Chi Minh is in you have to keep shuffling forwards, you're not allowed to stop. It's a dimly lit room with weird orange lighting on the body which may or may not be real (it's supposed to be embalmed). After the slightly odd but interesting experience we walked around the grounds which were also very pretty and then headed for lunch. On the way, Nicole's flip flop broke and she had to walk shame faced and with one bare foot to the nearest supermarket ...

... the desk with very few people in front of us and thought we'd be back on the bus in no time. However local people kept coming with plastic bags full of passports and waving money in order to be served first. Bribery is definitely a thing in Vietnam it seems. Our passports were on the man's desk but it appeared that without a bribe, they wouldn't stamp your passport. The dozen or so travellers that were on our bus did the English thing and waited in line hoping our ...
