... This hotel is much larger and more typical to the U.S. than our previous hotels. We just dropped off our bags and went for another two hour drive to Lasithiti Plateau. Lasithiti Plateau is located inland and at a much higher elevation than Heraklion and is a series of twenty tiny villages. Some of the buildings in the villages still have no roofs from bombings in the World War Two invasion of Crete. The villages are known ...

Last night we had some fun swimming in the pool - Kelly tried to teach chris to float without much success. Over our time on Crete we've met a bunch of people from the Netherlands. Wow, who knew islands in Greece could keep getting better and better?

We wrapped up in Santorini on 30 June, and headed off to Crete by ferry in the late afternoon. We were met at the port by a lovely lady from Tempo Holidays and two taxis (that drove us the 3 minutes to the hotel). We are staying at the Lato Hotel for our three day stay in Crete. And what a fabulous place this is, central location, close to harbour, port, central shopping ...

    Snorkeling and a hike

A travel blog entry by snibbertort on Jul 01, 2015

Today we went on a hike through the hills to a small cove. Once we got there, we went snorkeling and saw tons of little fish. I had never been snorkeling before, so it took some getting used to breathing through the snorkel, but once I got the hang of it I had a lot of fun. The water was so clear and blue that you could see all the way to the bottom. We had tea and cookies ...

... the most stupid person we have encountered worldwide and, unfortunately, she was English. She asked uncomfortable bathroom questions as we were eating our dinner, asked us if it would be winter in Canada when we returned home in five weeks time, and suggested that she was often uncomfortable ordering wine in the United States because they all seem to drink beer. When I pointed out to her that the U.S. is the fourth largest producer ...
