In spite of it all, I did get great satisfaction from the experience. There is something just so very romantic about facing the challenges of painting outdoors. My Tom Thompson moments.
And I learned another useful lesson - use more water. The painting, of course, is awful but it has a certain quality in areas that I like, probably because of that freshness.
