... own age. H** name was Edith and she studied social anthropology so we had much to talk about and I was asking all kinds of questions about *****ia. Thank to h** the trip was rath** ok, and I got to see much of the landscape. Nine hours lat**, I was in the ***** Delta, Port Harcourt. Nine hours is fast as the roads are really bad, but the driv** drove as he had stolen, the car, the gas and kidnapped all of us so we w**e early in spite of heavy rainfall and ****** roads. Edith got me in a ...
Port harcourt, Nigeria oyvindsandve... an mein** Seite. Hi ...
Aba, Nigeria antje.gohmann... I speak much slow** than when I first came to *****ia. Is ev**ything v**y Christmassy in the UK? It's boiling hot h**e and could not feel less festive. I'm actually really looking forward to being cold though - I've been sweating constantly for the past 3 months - mm nice.... Think I'm definitely a cold weath** p**son. Goodbye from Calabar! (wish me luck and patience for the forthcoming 13 hour bus ride to Abuja.....)
Calabar, Nigeria rhian.ogorman... really bit us! I found about 5 hiding in my shoe. I found a poisonous centipede in my bag on Wednesday. My bag got wet (Calabar weath** is v**y tropical - pouring with rain one minute and scorching hot the next) and I thought it would be ok left in my room. I took it outside to dry it prop**ly aft** two days and Aunty Bobo (I think she lives with us but you can nev** quite tell how many people live with you and how many are p**manent visitors) turned it inside out was ...
Calabar, Nigeria rhian.ogorman... say why they drew what they did. Pet** said he drew his canoe as it was something the white man invented which was a wond**ful thing according to him. Ev**y oth** p**son said that they drew their chosen object because it was invented by the white man and was bett** than whatev** they had before this. It was honestly one of the strangest times I've had h**e - not least because most of the things w**e not actually invented by ...
Calabar, Nigeria rhian.ogorman... These are usually run by nuns and focus on assisting the eld**ly and orphans. I visited a place like this last week and they told us how they lit**ally pick people off the streets who don't have any family or community support. I'll keep you all updated with events h**e. Sorry if I confused you with the last email. We're having transport problems and need to get back from Edinburgh to our homes on Decemb** 18th. If anyone is in Edinburgh at this time can they let me know thanks.
Calabar, Nigeria rhian.ogorman... when the teach** walloped a six year old for talking. We have to call all old** females "Auntie..." and all old** males "Uncle.." e.g. if I want to ask directions I would say "Good Morning Auntie" - v**y odd! I hope I rememb** not to do that when I return to UK or I'll get some v strange looks... Hope all is well with ev**yone - please make sure you fill me in with all the news. I've found an int**net cafe which works ok-ish and try to check emails once a week at least.
Calabar, Nigeria rhian.ogorman... taken the nursing staff (25 in numb**) to task, a Polish anaesthetist (via Seattle) who has an impressive collection of music and musical knowledge and a French team lead** who is v**y capable. I am the only MSF virgin h**e as all the rest have been on at least one previous mission. The building of the kitchens and laundry rooms have approached completion today and the second stage of the project should start soon. This involves the purchase of an ambulance ...
Port Harcourt, Nigeria fardy10... Ikom - Calabar 07h30, departure from Calabar, direction to Ikom. No problem except that I believed that it was to 167 Km and not to 230 Km actually. In short I arrive to the *****ian bord** und** rain. Short formalities; v**y surprised not to have something to dash. No news of the "special abroad vehicle license." Ev**ything is OK. Then, aft** having passed a bridge fenced on both sides like Auchwitz Camp, I arrive to the Cam**oonian bord**; ev**ything in the deep forest and ...
Port Harcourt, Nigeria fennec... Harcourt, I explained Tony I wanted some clothes. He enquired if I wanted to go to the secure-for-foreign**s sup**market, or to the regular market... Of course, I asked if the regular market was ok. The answ** was not that clear, but I told him that he could take me: I trusted him, as he was responsible for me... nev** said something so stupid ev**aft** So we got to the market: imagine an african street. Buildings on the left for 1km. The market ...
