Thank to h** the trip was rath** ok, and I got to see much of the landscape. Nine hours lat**, I was in the ***** Delta, Port Harcourt. Nine hours is fast as the roads are really bad, but the driv** drove as he had stolen, the car, the gas and kidnapped all of us so we w**e early in spite of heavy rainfall and ****** roads. Edith got me in a ...

The last service

How are you all doing? This'll be the last email from Calabar as we leave on Wednesday boohoo. I will be so sad to leave althogh I am really looking forward to Edinburgh and also planning post-VSO stuff. Have just come out of a 5 and a half hour church s**vice.... It was v**y int**esting. S**vices h**e are like watching a conc**t - preach**s stand on a stage with a mic and we all dance to funky music! In today's s ...

Aside from that I am fine and am preparing myself to come back to the UK in Decemb**. Thanks to ev**yone who responded to my last email about the clothes - I'll sort out what I want in the next few days and will let you know when I can meet you in London. I look forward to seeing some of you in Decemb** - seems like forev** since I spoke to ev**yone.

... white man" (eg canoes and footballs) at all. Pet** then rounded up by stating that they w**e inf**ior to white people as they "w**e living in mud huts before we came along". We tried to explain that this was not the case and that eg canoes w**e not 'invented' by the white man but it was like they had all been brainwashed. Work is going well - we are trying to twin Flieyo school with Edinburgh schools and hope to get Edinburgh ...

Week four

I think this week has been one of the busiest I've ev** had! Work placements are going v**y well - int**estingly, the teach**s seem to think that I know ev**ything about what they are teaching. I attempted to give a lesson on traditional festivals in Calabar (New Yam Festival anyone????!!) which was v**y funny as I didn't have a clue and neith** did the children about what festivals Calabar holds. We met the Obong of Calabar on Tuesday who is the lead** of the Efiks (dominant ...

Calabar

Am in my third week in *****ia now and time is zooming by! It is so hot h**e and we haven't even come into the hot season (Oct-Feb) yet. Calabar is surprisingly rainy - more so than the rest of *****ia. It is lovely h**e. I don't thnk I've emailed about Calabar yet. We got h**e eventually aft** a 12 hour bus ride from Abuja. Ordinarily, it would have taken about half the time but we w**e delayed by pot holes (= whole bits of road missing). Driv**s have to zig zag across ...

In short I arrive to the *****ian bord** und** rain. Short formalities; v**y surprised not to have something to dash. No news of the "special abroad vehicle license." Ev**ything is OK. Then, aft** having passed a bridge fenced on both sides like Auchwitz Camp, I arrive to the Cam**oonian bord**; ev**ything in the deep forest and ...

Of course, I asked if the regular market was ok. The answ** was not that clear, but I told him that he could take me: I trusted him, as he was responsible for me... nev** said something so stupid ev**aft** So we got to the market: imagine an african street.
