Route 66

A travel blog entry by trevorrose on Aug 27, 2014

... found out that on the original sections that are now mainly minor roads and have a very low speed limit - often 70 kph! So progress was very slow and after following the route for a couple of hours and seeing a few roadside highlights we returned to the Interstate and made for the little town of Pontiac. A very pretty place, on the banks of the Vermillion River, it is home to a great Route ...

Day 4 last relaxing day

A travel blog entry by mkasarda on Aug 01, 2014

So today is the last real day for 10 days before the ride to Sturgis and then to Alaska. I forgot what it is like to turn the cold water on from a tap and get real cold water, not warm tap water like in Florida. No cars, no trucks, the silence is deafening! One of the odd things about Illinois are the oil wells. I was visiting old dead relatives and one ...

We drove to Springfield to go to the Lincoln Home it was nice how they had it set up. His house was very nice for the time Mary had some nice things especially these candle sticks ...

Left Bloomington and rejoined the original road after a short stint on the interstate. Followed Route 66 as it wound it's way past McLean before making a stop in Atlanta. I was very fortunate to arrive at the right time to be allowed to see the inside working of the clock tower just prior to the chimes for 10am. The clock is hand-wound and there are a team of volunteers who are tasked with ensuring it ...
