Speyer Day 8 - Basel

... 1 just in time to see the back of our train to Speyer as it pulled away. A Plan B is now in effect.

As I am sure, you all know that we usually take the S5 from Mannheim to Speyer. That is our Plan A. Our Plan B was to take the S2 to Schifferstadt at 8:56pm and get off at platform 3 at 9:14pm. Then we shot over to platform 1 to connect to the S4 leaving at 9:24pm - Eazy-Peazy.

... was looking for squirrels, but none were around. But we did see woodpeckers, which kept her happy. She says she saw a few different types of tits, too, but we wont go there. After walking around we had lunch at the base of the falls. I had the biggest bock wurst sausage in the smallest bun I've ever seen. Looked ridiculous but tasted great. Had a look in some of the tourist shops. Tried on ...

Another 60km down today, and a well deserved shower and beer were expecting us in Waldshut, on the German side of the Rhine this time. The day had started nicely and slowly by paying a visit to the Roman ruins of Augst. The next step was to enjoy local sausage for lunch in Rheinfelden on the Swiss side, after which we tried to speed up the pace but were hampered by unpaved roads, until the nice manager of a Swiss campsite told us the ...

... it was shut til 15:00 so we decided to head to the Motor Museum that day - The museum is home to the Schlumpf Collection, which is classed as the most Prestigious Collection in the world and the Largest collection of Bugatti's - in total there are over 400 cars in the collection...there are plenty of pictures and a video of Tom going for a spin or roll in one of the cars...

We stayed a couple of nights, visited Mulhouse centre but not a great deal to see here...

... quietness of the place. After a quick lunch break we crossed the canal and went across the Rhine river as well, only to find ourselves having to cross the German border in order to progress. Sure why not? Except the path became not so bucolic as we went through an industrial zone, all the way to the "3 country bridge", marking the point where Germany, Switzerland and France meet. So we went on it, and boom, there we were back in France. Funny to see ...
