    We stopped at the port of Corfu. The only way to really get around the island is to take an excursion. At least it was for us. We were going to see a Monastery in the village of Palaiokastritsa and to the village of Gastouri to visit the 19th century Achilleion Palace.
    The places were very beautiful and again the excursions didn't disappoint ...

    Back on our apartment balcony, we could look to the underside of the balcony opposite and watch the comings and goings of a nest of blue and white swifts feeding their young, sticking their bums out of the well-crafted nest to do a dropping or two! Fascinating stuff - and we loved it.

    The castle wasn’t really a castle at all. It was a series of three fortifications built over many centuries by three different groups. The oldest part was built by the Byzantines. This included a great cistern for water catchment of a similar style but much smaller to the one in Istanbul. We got a look inside this cistern, it is 5m deep.
