... is a beautiful mountain village, and our hosts, Shona’s cousin Eva and her husband Bruce, are very hospitable, helpful and hugely entertaining. We had two great nights with them, including Eva cooking a multi course Provencal meal on Sunday night (they had returned from Provence on Saturday).

... pareti mancanti che fanno sembrare le stanze delle macabre cartoline. Le vie assolate e desolate. E' tutto così surreale che faccio fatica ad immaginare una città viva, come poteva essere prima del terremoto.
Ci sono soltanto i vigili del fuoco che mettono in sicurezza quel che resta del centro storico.
Le vie d'accesso sono presidiate dalle forze dell'ordine per evitare sciacallaggio.
Ci rechiamo al cosiddetto COM1 per prendere i buoni benzina per l'ambulanza.

Approfittando degli spostamenti per andare a prendere i farmaci sono riuscita a vedere di persona Onna e Paganica. Le foto non sono diverse da quelle che i giornalisti hanno già pubblicato, ma a per servono per ricordare cosa hanno visto i miei occhi.
In particolare Onna è inquietante; mi ricorda un paesino dell'Angola dopo i bombardamenti...
Che ne sarà? Qual è il futuro di quelli che vivevano lì? Quanto dovranno stare sotto una tenda?

Da brava infermiera non ho potuto fare a meno di andare a vedre l'ospedale de L'Aquila; se ne è tanto parlato.
La struttura principale è in piedi, i danni sono agli impianti e all'interno, chiaramente non l'ho visto, ma ho visto come sono messi adesso i colleghi.

... br>Non sapendo se la fornitura sarebbe stata sufficiente per tutte le unità abitative, la gente si è precipitata da noi per avere un attestato di priorità su base sanitaria!
Ma la protezione civile ha superato se stessa: in 2 giorni sono arrivati condizionatori per tutti.

Mountain high, river low; today Gran Sasso, highest peak in the Appenines. Geared up we took the cablecar up then walked up to the refuge. After lunch in Aquila's main piazza we drove to the Adriatic to see how it compared to the Tirrenian sea. The rocky beach was a new treat for the kids, and the acqua sea (with waves!) enticed them all. A late night drive back-to sleep in our own beds-love staycations!

I had only two chances to go skiing while I was in Italy but I was so happy I got to go and also to be able to start getting the hang of snowboarding at last. The first day I went with Gianluca and Francesca to Ovindoli and decided to go skiing which I picked up again quite quickly thankfully...WITHOUT tearing a cruciate ligament in the process!! ... Sasso. We can only rave about it! Every 5 minutes we had to stop the car to take more photos. The views and scenery were quite breathtaking. We drove up, down and around the mountains, through some gorgeous old towns and to a very large lake. This area is just over two hours, by car, from Rome and well worth the visit. ... of the church today to me was the huge park in the front of the church that allowed for mid day strolls and rowdy soccer matches by the locals.
