Brisbane

We were blessed with beautiful weather in Brisbane, which made it a wonderful city to walk around and explore. We went to the city botanical gardens, which is right in the middle of downtown. It has the most amazing trees and plants in it and there are big birds and lizards just roaming around. You wonder what happens if the wildlife ever cross the street into downtown. The river winds around the city and you find walking paths and bike paths all around the riverfront. Wherever you go you see...

Beautiful Balmoral

... a lot nicer than taking the tube that's for sure! We weren't up for doing much so just strolled around town taking it all in. They have a nice man made lagoon with a beach situated on the river where everyone can chill out on a hot day. We walked along the south bank and after visited the Old Parliament building which had a painting exhibition on. Walked around the CBD looking at the shops before having a schooner in a pub and jumping back on the SeaCat to ...

... night. We met some season ticket holders in the bar before the game and they let us sit with them right down in front. The Reds got beat, but we had a great time. Sorry, no pictures of the rugby, because our camera is a pain to carry around (especially to bars). We were woken up by a fire alarm at 5 am. The whole hostel had to go outside for 30 minutes while the fire department put it out. Lots of fun.

Back to Australia!

Backtracking to Brisbane and goodbye to Oz

... the amount (and social etiquette) of backpackers in this part of the world, I guess I have gone for the incredibly well trodden east coast route so should have expected it. Nonetheless, it was completely minor compared with the beauty of the country, the friendliness of the locals, the amazing surf and beaches and the sheer amount and variety of bird and wildlife

Goodbye Oz, we very much hope to return someday.

... actually a great bloke, a proper Aussie, and his mate who runs the Scooteroo chopper tours. We got into Brisbane about 8pm and dumped the bags at the ridiculously overpriced hostel with tiny rooms and no aircon or fan and windows which don't open. Luckily it was cloudy and cool. We headed straight out into the city searching for a pub and some food. We abandoned all ideas of saving money as we had mostly already done in Australia and went ...
