It was raining today and really cold so we took in the local museum full of Roman antiquities found in recent local excavations, it was small but still astounding that it was over 2000 years ago and they were so civilised. We started off with a lovely buffet of Marta's home grown prosciutto, cakes, fruit, and home made cheeses, all delicious and too much! For a little variety and to remind ourselves of why we left the cold for winter we caught the 3.5hr train trip through Tivoli to an old country town Sulmona, the birth place of Ovid the Roman Poet. Our B&B, il Marchese del Grillo, is newly rebuilt and with a generous hostess Marta who made us very welcome. ... pop of a gun, one last faint call, and then all was silent.  I wonder if the bear was trying to raid the bee hives again and the owner was scaring it off.  Maybe this time the electric fence around the hives worked and made the bear call out that first time.  Actually, on Wednesday night the bear had gone back to L'Ape e L'Orso and destroyed all the remaining hives.  The owner, while being reimbursed for the damage by the park service, was going ...
