... they had just lost significant monies from all of the tourists who never made it!

Despite all of these adventures, we were thrilled to be walking on solid ‘black’ (the soil was all black) ground on an active volcanic island.

    FROM JACKSON:

Most of the island is blackened from previous volcanic activity. Despite the many eruptions over the last 2000 years, the villages that hug the lower slopes on the north ...

After a very restful nights sleep we decide to squeeze our way out of the marina and move to anchor on Volcano Island so we can get an early start tomorrow at 4am to Palamero. Eric spots a school of Dolphins jumping in the waves and tells us all ...

It's an easy 10 minute walk to Corso Vittorio Emanuele, the main street- a lovely pedestrian zone, and only a couple of minutes further to both port areas and the citadel and museum. Anoeta had left us with some of her home made goodies too, and more things have appeared early in the morning. Little sugar drenched doughnuts (like our New Year 'olly-bollies') had appeared magically on the table when I went out on ...

... narrow alleys darting off from the main streets. All a riot of colour, decorated with potted flowers and washing hanging out to dry. We easily found the hotel, checked in and kid-tested the pool. Only here for two night's, though, so out for a walk, organise a boat tour, have a spritzer by the seaside and then dinner. It might sound hectic but like everything on the Aeolian Islands, it was oh-so-casual and a spectacular change of pace from the rest of Sicily. Dinner was ...
