... per hour, you can't beat train travel in leave in the middle of town and get to the middle of town. 15 minutes in a taxi, 10 Euro's later, and we are the hotel..makes Adelaide taxi fares look very very expensive! We are approx 200 metres from the Spanish steps, so went up there to descend the steps and take photo's etc. after some lunch, walked around to find a laundry...eventually...10 euro's ...

A walk thru Siena

A travel blog entry by debbie.chung

Leaving Venice went quite smoothly. Nikki woke early to go for a jog. Later we went for a walk looking for an ATM. Found one near the Rialto Bridge.

The ferry service back to the airport was about 10 minutes late but it was able to make up time easily. The trip was shortened to 25 minutes (around 30% quicker). Google maps did it's job and we were soon on the motorway heading towards ...

12/30 - We sadly left Pienza behind this morning for our next destination, Florence. We stopped on the way in Arezzo - a place none of us had visited before. Arriving in Arezzo, we made our way to the San Francesco church. This church has been made famous by its frescos. We discovered the cost to go inside was a bit high, so we decided to visit the Duomo in Arezzo instead. The Duomo, with its free admission, was stunning. ...

Day Trip to Siena

... from our experience, it's always better to get those from smaller train stations, to avoid huge lines). We grabbed a train at 4:18 PM and arrived back in Florence around 5:30 PM.

In Florence, we walked through the market and a street of souvenir shops and then we walked to the Academia Gallery(which houses the famous sculpture of David). It was closed, so we walked back to the hotel to regroup for about 45 minutes.

We left Yorkshire in the pouring rain on Saturday, and after a short delay we arrived here with no problems. The villa is about 2 hours drive from Pisa airport, and although we didn't see the leaning tower, the drive here was beautiful; although Italian drivers are crazy. The villa is ridiculous, it has the largest collection of miniature theatres anywhere in the world. It also has seven bedrooms, three indoor and two ...

JM.

    Loved it all

set in the old part of Siena. wonderful ambience of old 16 century nunnery without the rules and curfews!! fresh squeesed red orange juice for breakfast and pastry, cheese etc. excellent rooms, spacious and comfy..very helpful staff..has car parking for smaller cars. Try the duo arches restaurant nearby for authentic moderately priced tuscan cuisine.

see their website for photos which are entirely accurate representation.

Nice hotel with a couple of drawbacks

This is a charming hotel, situated within the city walls and just a short walk from the Piazza del Campo (the main square in Siena). The hotel is housed in a former monastery and retains many of the historical features. Despite its city centre location, the hotel is very quiet and there is very little noise from the streets.

    Beautiful Hotel, Great Service

Vincenzo, the manager is the best! We stayed in a beautiful, spacious room with gold decor. We paid much more for a tiny yet expensive room in Rome that we could both barely stand up at the same time in. This room was HUGE in comparison. The bathroom was very modern and comfortable with bright, funky, red tiles. Our room also had a terrazo we could walk out onto. And, it was convenient to have a mini bar when you forget what time the nearby grocery store closes. The hotel is clean, quiet and nice - very updated. The staff was friendly and helpful with good suggestions on places to eat. Breakfast in the morning was great, and fully stocked. Loved having a t.v. with CNN, and internet service in the room, too.

    Bella scoperta!

Abbiamo prenotato quest'hotel all'ultimo momento e siamo rimasti piacevolmente sorpresi.

    Converted Monastery

Arrived to be told our rooms were unavailable because of a bathroom problem but when we declined a move to their "pensione" an identical sets of rooms to what we had originally booked became available in the hotel. After that they could not have been more welcoming. My daughter was provided with access to a concert room to practice the flute and even allowed to borrow sheet music from their library. It turns out that it is part of a music school. We had a large double with interconnecting door to a smallish twin. Historic ex-monastery so no lifts. Tiny breakfast room but opening onto cool cloistered courtyard which I assume would be used in summer. Good location as easy parking in locked area but only 5-10 minutes walk to centre of Siena. Recommended closest bistro but we actually went to Osteria in nearby street of Piano dei Mantellini which was better.

    Good Find!

We booked this hotel last minute and were most pleasantly surprised. The hotel is a converted monastry maintaining many original features and charms. The rooms are clean, spacious and well equipped, including flat screen TVs! The staff were extremely friendly and will help with any questions you have. The location is perfect for visiting Siena. The additional bonus is the free parking within the walls of the city.

Charming ambiance at il Chiostro del Carmine

Having travelled extensively for both business and pleasure, I have often found it difficult to find a hotel that offers both ambiance and quality amenities such as value, space, comfort, cleanliness, service, including an abundant breakfast, and a location that is both accessible yet quiet. il Chiostro del Carmine offers all of the above and more. There is also wi-fi internet access that can also be enjoyed from the beautiful chiostro courtyard. Breakfast can be had in the Tuscan-colored cantina, access via stone steps, or can be had al fresco in the adjoining courtyard with its charming arches and garden-like setting. Ample wrought iron cafe` tables, ottomans, and comfortable chairs can be found in the courtyard and offer a virtual private and peaceful area at any time during the day or evening. There is a beautiful medieval chapel on the second floor, available for small gatherings such as banquets, meetings, dinners, and special occasions. The staff is both knowledgeable and genuinely interested in the comfort of their guests. If your Italian is less than perfect, they are happy to assist you in English as needed. Location is ideal, minutes away from Porta San Marco, an excellent Restaurant "Due Archi", as well as the Piazza del Campo and il Duomo. Don't let the proximity to these famous sites fool you, the hotel is ideally situated to offer a peaceful night's rest, from where you can begin your day refreshed and amply fed. I stayed here for almost a month in July and August for work and to visit friends and relatives. A rare find and a special value considering most accommodations in the city of Siena with equal amenities would cost double. This was a wonderful retreat and one that can be highly recommended without hesitation at any period throughout the year.
