... peering in to all of the very posh restaurants (we can only drool) before heading back to our very average hostel and smelly dorm room. The evening was very low key though there was quite a bit of excitement when a sudden torrential downpour started after months without rain. Annoyingly, Rachel woke up with literally hundreds of insect bites over her and we’re still trying to work out what was that hungry and where it happened but either way, she’s suffering!
Cairns, Queensland, Australia rachandstu... see picture of sugar refinery). You can see Tony peeping over the top of the boot in one of the pictures. For those of you who know that Rosa affectionately calls Tony ‘Toad’, you may agree that the Toad meets frog pose is quite lovely!
We headed on our way and got to Cairns in good time to try out the campsite laundry and finally make connection to the internet! Oh the practicalities of life on the road…. Our ...
... a heart beat if I get the chance. Tonight a bunch of us went to the Night Markets. Cool little shops. I bought 8 shot glasses, I have my own collection now.
I met up with Lee at the Markets, he's the English guy I met at the woolshed. We walked down the esplanade and pier (I wish I could have done that in the sunlight, it looked really pretty) and then went for a drink. I was pretty tired so had to cut it short and head back to the hotel.
... pace, and then John found a sea cucumber for us all to pat.
At the end of that dive, John said he thought I was perfectly at ease in the water, even considering I had not been diving in 10 years, and it should be no trouble for me to upgrade my certification to adult rather than junior. I will look into it when I am back in Sydney, and see what can be arranged.
So that was the marvelous day. We now come to the not so marvelous ...

Cairns, Queensland, Australia frechdaxxx... Cay, grabbed a mask, snorkel and flippers and hired a stinger suit, the best $5 spent. There were no jellyfish, but the suit kept the sun from burning our delicate pale British skin which was awesome as pretty much every time I have burnt, it has been after snorkelling. 3 hung over boys from Gloucestershire realised the errors of their ways by the end of the day by sporting lobster red backs - ouch!! The sea was a stunning array of ...
Cairns, Queensland, Australia hess... no spiders then?' i ask. 'oh don't worry about them, they live underneath the toilet seat'. that's NOT reassuring. they could still climb out and bite your bum when you're sitting down!! obviously, we are still here as i'm writing this from the comparative safety of a house in melbourne. where at least the spiders hide here...but just remember it's a dangerous world out there folks...till next time folks, happy bug hunting.k&t.x.
Cairns, Queensland, Australia chickpealarry... out but won't know till we get back to ATL. After the return trip to the Marina - we returned the camera, and had sushi. HA! Nothing like eating the fish you've been watching swim around all day. I did manage to get a bit of a sunburn so after a long day on the boat was wiped out and hit the sack. Next day is early flight to our final destination in Australia - Brisbane.
Cairns, Queensland, Australia rebshark... my dorm lol. Got changed and thought I would head out to get some food, as you get a free dinner voucher here at a place called the Woolshed. Made my way over and it was roasting hot so was wet threw by the time I got there. There was a massive queue as seemed to be some convention called Australearn. Waiting in the queue for a bit then sacked it off as it looked rammed. Found a bar that I'd passed on the way that looked okay and got myself a seat at ...
Cairns, Queensland, Australia oldhamguy... I only took about 4000 photos, which seems quite reasonable...
At one point we had a few spots of rain, and a rainbow appeared right behind the rock, almost bisecting it...
...a few minutes later a second rainbow appeared just above it. I can't ...
