... to find fruit bats. Surprise, they roost in downtown Cairns. We walked all around the library and listened to the bats chitter away. There were hundreds of them lounging in the trees. They looked like toys but they were flittering and while we ate dinner at Outback Jacks we watched them dart around under the lights.
Well, tomorrow is the end - I hope the final plane trips are uneventful ...

A walk or two around Cairns and window shopping at the
tourist digs, a swim in the Cairns Lagoon (a huge man made pool, sand area
right on the beach front) the day trip to Kuranda was the big highlight. We
headed off at 7.30 in the morning and made our way to the Scenic Railway line
at the Freshwater Railway Station. Construct ion of this man made railway began
in 1887 as a link to the rich mining belt down to the sea. There ...
... so much fun. Spent the day at the Atherton Tablelands which is North Queenslands food/beverage region, spending the day going on walks around waterfalls as well as diving into natural pools, sliding down natural rock water slides, swimming into waterfalls including the Milla Milla falls famous for herbal essences advert and Peter Andres "whooa whooa whooa, mysterious girl" video... yes we did sing that when we jumped into it. Amazing day. So much fun, ...
Great Barrier Reef in Cairns
Early morning again with a 6:15AM wake up so that we could check in and pay our hostel and then get our voucher for our snorkeling tour! We had to walk down to the Reef Terminal to get checked in. It was about a 15 minute walk, but the board walk was gorgeous! There is even an infinity pool right next to the ocean! So cool!
