... what others have said about the beauty of this region.

A little information on the most famous product of the area, Brunello de Montalcino. To be classified as a Brunello, the wineries most comply with 53 regulations about where, how, when, and how long the wine must be produced. Your scribe is, as he writes this, enjoying a bottle of Fanti Vallocchio purchased on our excursion into town today. Actually I lost track of whether Montalcino has more churches ...

Our last full day at the Villa Casenovole. This villa has been AMAZING but there are a few things I won't miss: 1 - the spiders and centipedes inside the house 2 - the cold, cold tile floors 3 - the smell in the bathrooms - there's something about the water here that stinks! We took Rick Steves' advice and visited a hilltop town on market day. Really good tip and it was so much fun. We all piled in our behemoth of a van and went ...

We planned on setting out for Florence at 7 am but Colette was feeling very poorly - had a really bad stomach ache. We waited around for a while to see if it would pass but eventually had to send the other 5 on without us. Very disappointing. We tried to make the best of the day relaxing by the pool. The 3 of us will try to go again ...

... up the money...".

In Volterra which is smaller and nicer we got into town discovering all parking inside is for residents. However on exiting we did find a legitimate place to park for only E1.2 per hour. We made the most of the hour and saw lots as well as enjoyed a pannini, latte and shared a beer served by a friendly English speaking young Italian woman.

All in all not a bad day's outing as we drove through the famously alluring Tuscan ...
