We have now learnt two things about the weather in this part of Italy- it knows how to be hot and it knows how to rain.
We managed to get under way soon after 08:00. The first part of the ride was on nice quiet roads through lovely countryside up to a little way beyond the lovely hilltop village of San Gimignano. We had an elevenses stop of spinach tortillas at San Gimignano.
Some way after San Gimignano the rain started - the ...

Woke up this morning with a nasty sore throat - similar to flu. Just chilling out this morning and hope to go hiking this evening.

Breakfast was included and it was quite a spread. Had tea with lemon to soothe the throat. Had seafood pasta at a local joint. It was very good. Cost 12 EURO and their is a cover charge of 3 EURO per person. Every restaurant here has a cover charge.

We decided to hike from Monterosso to Venezzia which is a 2 hour hike and it ...

It’s called Lover’s Lane as couples like to write their names on locks and lock them to the fences and things. It seemed that some people did not have locks so they made do with what had, we even saw names written on toilet paper tied to things. People had also graffitied all along the rock ...

... all kinds of highs- now that my thirst is slaked, I get to start ANEW."
Monday I rode my bike to Carrara- It was 2 hours riding up hill to get to the bus stop that would take me to Colonnata, a tiny village in the middle of the marble mines. I was told by the tourist office to take bus 56 to bus 52 to bus 50.. each time I got to the bus stop I ended up riding further on my bike. I could eliminate 2 buses but not the 3rd. The bus went up a ...
