We slept in this morning and woke refreshed to the sound of rain! However, by the time we showered, the rain was gone and there was only sun and blue sky to be seen. We enjoyed a warm breakfast of crepes and omelets-- made to order! The kids had Nutella, banana, strawberries and even whipped cream and sprinkles on their crepes and the adults had veggie, ricotta and prosciutto omelettes. Plus delicious cappuccinos!! Then we were off to do the ...

We had an interesting start to our journey today. At the station we were informed that there was a national strike on and so services would be disrupted, but "it is OK at the moment". It probably took longer to buy the tickets than it did to actually get to Vernazza.

Vernazza is called the jewel of the Cinque Terra and it would appear that everyone wants to see it as three tour groups disembark when we do ...

... we must come to the village from the other direction. So it was a case of so close and yet so far.
Almost took this right hand turn

which would have landed us in the ligurian sea within a couple of minutes....
We eventually were getting closer and had a first sighting of the village perched on the headland
