... would we do without it) I discovered a cable ski lift not far from the train station that went up to Pila ski fields. When we got off the train it was easy to find, so we joined the line of people carrying skis, sleds and dressed in snow gear, not many people wearing jeans like us! ... of Cervinia, the town had a fun vibe and the people were warm and friendly and generally wanted to help. Although Stew started a few fights in the gondola queue with middle aged men who were quite happy to walk over Mitchell to save 10 seconds in line.

... Oli outgunned me in a Chicken Wing and Nacho eating comp, not once but twice, and we had a burger night with Hannah the instructor. The rest of the time, the boys in the family were hanging around in the apartment in our jocks enjoying the central heating and dining in. The promised snow never arrived, but it didn't bother us in the slightest and we left Zermatt after 2 weeks with nothing but fond memories and a couple of weeks of good skiing under our belt.

... 12 so we killed some time in the shops waiting for 12 o'clock to tick over. We fronted up again to be told if we had "Swiss rail passes" we would get a further discount. We were unaware of this and had not brought them with us, so Carolyn and I did the dash back to the hotel for our Swiss rail passes so we got a decent discount in the end. Driving in the luxury of the Benz into Charmonix for lunch
and then through the Mont Blanc 11.6km tunnel into Italy is fantastic and we take the road
