This morning we packed overnight bags and left our main luggage in the hotel baggage area then made our way from Shinjuku to Tokyo station to get our first bullet train. ... me onto the bus bound for kanbayashi onsen. Similarly to the previous two days the weather was miserable on the 40 minute bus ride, with clouds hanging low over the mountains that surround Nagano. ... each and we had about 5 taxis to accommodate 21 people.

We caught the train to Matsumoto and then changed to go to Nagano. All this was on the local train and not the Shinkansen. By the time we reached the hotel, it was 8.15pm. We couldn't be bothered with dinner by that point and basically did the laundry and went to bed.

The next morning, we are due to go back to Matsumoto again to see the castle there.
