On to Loreto, and oh what a treat...

I got up and Tanka and I went back to Los Pollitos for coffee and reading. Sleeping Beauty joined us and

we then packed up and left. Stopped in San Ignacio for walk and popped into a museum to see items found in the caves that surround this area. We bought a mangonada (mango frozen dessert) from a house and great empanadas de queso from the store.

Stopped in Mulege for the famous daiquiri we read about but passed on it due to unfriendliness. Did hit a good taco stand before mov...

Another Day in Loreto...

After breakfast, we headed for the beach and ended up taking in a four hour walk and beach combing - a bit too much sun and a few blisters, but a very nice, quiet walk. Paul joined me in some beach combing and we had fun sharing favorite rocks and shells. After napping, we repeated the same bread/wine, then quesadilla ritual as yesterday but added some grilled veggies to the mix - and invited Lee to join us. Lee served in the military where he learned to fly helicopters. He then attended scho...

Excited to attend December Nights in Balboa Park

My kids just love the Balboa Park. December Nights in Balboa Park is one annual family event we try to enjoy every year. So this time we are going to San Diego to check out the festivities in Balboa Park on December 4th and 5th. Balboa Park is delightfully lit up with sparkling lights. The best part is a chance to savor lip smacking delicacies from different countries ranging from ...

Maritime Museum and Gaslamp Quarter

... remember the Seaport Village and the Marriott Hotel we stayed in.

From there we drove to the Gaslamp Quarter. We had pizza and watched football in a tiny corner shop for Thanksgiving dinner, then went to the Ghirardelli Soda Fountain & Chocolate Shop. Logan had a regular ice cream sundae and I had a peanut butter and dark chocolate sundae. A good food day and a lot to be thankful for.

Pretty Loreto

April 21, 2009 Loreto, Baja California Sur Overnight we crossed to the opposite side of the Sea of Cortez from Topo to the small town of Loreto, a delightful town full of history that had languished for decades in obscurity after it was all but blown away by a nasty hurricane in the late 1800's. But since the 1970's the Mexican government has been investing money in Loreto as more and more folks are recognizing it as a great vacation destination. For years it ...

Oh Baja-ve, Austin!

... We criss-crossed the peninsula back and forth passing the ocean, deserts, mountains and all different types and sizes of towns. The roads were in really good shape but pretty narrow, which wasn't a problem for us, but I can imagine things got a little tight for the RVs when they were passing trucks and buses. It's easy to picture a retired accountant from BC hunched white-knuckled over the wheel of his giant motor home, teeth gritted ...

Alex's aunt lives with them too, purely Spanish speaking we were able to communicate in individual words and gestures, and eventually got to exchangingcooking ideas - swapping AFrican Piri Piri chicken for Mexican style chicken. That afternoon we drove into the mounians of the interior to visit a ranch owned by a froend of Mikes. ... s up on stage for pictures and a shot. I was in quite a predicament, I wanted to laugh so hard, but when I would my back would hurt. It was great fun! We all slept in Sunday morning before Adrienne, Larissa and I headed back to the beach, where we had breakfast before walking along the boardwalk. This beach was really nice and had a bunch of people riding their bikes, running, rollerblading, or just strolling along the boardwalk. While ...
