It was nice to spend some time by the sea after all of the city and town stops.. We went on a boat trip and stopped at several different places along the reef. We went snorkelling and swam with nurse sharks and sting rays, also saw a turtle which was wicked!! Once we had finished snorkelling the boat was sailed all of the way back to Caye Caulker Island, it was so relaxing, just chilling on the boat listening to reggae music and drinking rum punch, this is the life. Our snorkelling tour was w...
Caye Caulker, Belize Cayes, Belize ren_n_emsAhoy, Ian here! The usual, by now, 5am start was needed to catch a bus from Flores all the way to the capital of Belize, Belize City. All I can say about Belize is.....WOW!!! The tone of what the next week would be like was set the minute we crossed the Guatemalan border into Belize, when our mini van driver inserted his Bob Marley CD which had all of his gringo passengers in the back humming along to "No women, no cry". When we finally arrived in Belize City, and the term "city" can be used ...
Caye Caulker, Belize saanddk After a long bus ride and a successful border crossing (we were 1o days over our visa so expecting a hefty fine but seem to have got away scott free) we arrive in Belize city and immediately jump on a ferry to Caye Caulkner. We decide to stay at the Ignacio cabins which are sheds on stilts a good ten minute walk from anywhere and 20 minutes from anywhere good but kind of calm and quiet.
We spend our first days exploring the island (again it doesn't take long) and sunbathing/snorkeling ...
... was shattered when her husband dipped his pen in the island ink, if you know what I mean, explained how to avoid getting an electric shock from the shower. So all good as far as the hotels is concerened!!

The hotel was in the quieter part of the island, away from the main street where the bars and restaurants are. We had a great little jetty with hammocks, so we spent a lot of the time chilling out. One afternoon, there was a massive rain storm coming in from ...
Caye Caulker, Belize Cayes, Belize kelmo... to work hard and succeed at cracking open a coconut he found hanging on one of the palm trees of our hotel.

When the rains subsided we took out some cruising bicycles that the hotel loans to its guests and went riding around town to see what there is to do. What we found was that this place is perfect to use as a jumping point for diving into the Blue Hole, which is the second best diving spot in the world next to the Great Barrier reef. This is also the perfect place ...
Caye Caulker, Belize Cayes, Belize seraphim50... by a hurricane in 1961. The water was deep there but we saw two morays eels and an eagle ray. It was funny actually. I was swimming ahead of Rikki and when I looked back at him there was the eagle ray swimming a couple feet below him and he hadn´t seen it. When I pointed it out to him, he looked pretty upcomfortable with it´s 6ft long tail floating dauntingly beneath him. We also broke down and ...
Caye Caulker, Belize ellisa_5... The hospital said 'news will be soon' so abit confused but excited we walked back ready to ring again in 4 hours when Pauline and Barry had reached Solihull. Anyway that turned out to be too long to bear so Ads went to check e-mail again then decided to chance his luck and ring Solihull hospital just in time for him to put straight through to newly proud dad Andrew to hear that a niece had been born at 3.14pm, UK time, 7 pounds 12 ounces, and that mother/sis Sasha and ...
Caye Caulker, Belize nikandads2008... of a myriad of colors and honking 3-wheeled motorcycle taxis called TucTucs. The family-run hotel I stayed in was shabby-chic but absolutely charming. I awoke every day to sweeping views across the lake and the sun shining in my eyes. The huipil-wearing Señora of the house welcomed me as if I was her own daughter. In lowland Guatemala, I spent a handful of days near a beautiful subterranean river and cave ...
Caye Caulker, Belize snowchick2001... marked with the Royal Cipher and Government House as it was made for use in the building. Some of the items date back to Queen Victoria. Next to this building is St John's Cathedral, the oldest Anglican Church in Central America. Built in 1812 again with British brick it was built by slaves. The only other building of note is the Courthouse, a two story building with a nice ironwork staircase. It was built in 1926 and is still in use today.
Belize City, Belize mikeandmary... This is an estimate I couldn´t be bothered doing a head count. It was a Saturday night when I arrived in Belize city. I met a Swede and a German (named Tam and Rab respectively) in the hostel and we went out clubbing that evening. It was a reggae/dance/rap sort of music mix, my favourite! We were the token gringos in the club. I always get a good vibe from a place when three different locals approach and warn you to be vigilant so you don´t get ...
