... is some sort of Expo going on in Milan and there are about 1 million more visitors than usual for this time of year and we have been told that it will probably cost about 40 euros to park for the day. So armed with all this info we head into the traffic. Its only about 50 miles from Lecco to Milan, and most of the drive, once away from the lake area, is large roads. We checked out of our hotel, left the bags and set out on foot towards the Santa Maria delle Grazie. On our way we stopped at a cute cafe, Doffo 18, and had a couple cappuccinos and a few cornetto, an Italian take on a French croissant filled with raspberry jam. After that gem of ...

... of the things we’d seen in the morning without understanding what they really were and why they were significant.

And finally, Milan and fashion are synonymous. The stores declare it and the people display it; smartly-dressed women and men abound; and unlike Oz, ties are still in fashion for men.

So next stop is Lake Como - the village of Menaggio - and an apartment high above the lake with a great view (so says the ad!). Sounds good to ...
