... Propylaea with huge columns on either side. To the right if this was the Temple of Nike and on the left the Pedestal of Agrippa. Once at the top I had to be very careful where I walked as there was marble in places which was very slippery and there was also lots and lots of people. Most of the buildings, mostly temples, were complete ruins except for the magnificent Parthenon and the Erachtheum. They are still restoring the ...

... the oracle of Apollo. It is located on a high mountain tarrace with gorgeous surroundings. We spent most of our time wondering around the ruins seeing the remains of buildings and sculptural treasures. August 5, 2008 We did not have a tour planned for today. We went into downtown Athens and enjoyed walking around the large city. We were in the city's center for most of the day before ...

... internet, I took the subway with Bobby to Athens to research a few travel agencies to find stuff for us to do with Jono the following day when he and his family fly in to Piraeus. The travel agency "Trekking Hellas" that I was searching for ended up not offering the tours I wanted, but we would at least be able to see the Acropolis with him and tour the city. I also finished planning out an adventure for Croatia while I was there, thanks to the power of cheap internet ...

My last few weeks in Greece...

... a ferry to Andros, where we spent three marvelous days sleeping in and relaxing on the beach. The weather couldn't have been more perfect. On Monday when we got back to Athens, and after Greek class, we took Roxanne and Olivia to see the Temple of Zeus and the First Modern Olympic Stadium. The Temple of Zeus was very cool. Of the original 104 columns, 16 remain and they are absolutely massive and beautiful! That afternoon it started to thunderstorm so ...

... Plenty of women, no dudes. Three miserable hours later we arrived off the bus in Patra and boarded our overnight ferry to Corfu. This would prove to be a terrible experience. After all day in the sweltering Greek heat and humidity, we completed our 3rd day without a shower... sweet. We were in Athens less than an afternoon. Our trip pace is pretty much insane. Crazy Americans.

GREECE!!

... Just standing underneath one of the columns of the Parthenon took my breath away. We also saw the Temple of Zues, and the Theatre of Dyonisos (which in it's day could seat 17000 people! That's like Rexall Place in Edmonton!). Yes, we have also been loving the cuisine with it's greek salad and mousaka galore. Athen is a noisy ...
