Tokyo’s attractions were by no means exhausted, but we have lots of the rest of Japan we’d still like to see, so the next day we used our Japan Rail (JR) Passes to hop on the Shinkansen (bullet train) and headed up to a town called Nikko, in the foothills north of Tokyo. ... three hours, meaning that 2.5 of those walked in the rain and strong wind. We arrived at the 5th station around 8:30, totally soaked, tired but our spirit was great

What an amazing night, it was really an adventure!!!!!!

Tried to go to sleep around 6:30pm. Wake up call was at 2am to hike the rest of the way to the summit for sunrise. We were determined not to get stuck in the queue of people going up to the summit so left before the rush at 1am. We totally missed all the crowds and made it to the summit in good ...

... forecast couldn't have been any better by the way: clear skies, about 28 degrees Celsius at the bottom and 4 degrees at the top where it is normally below zero. My rain clothes stayed in the bottom of my backpack all of the weekend.

We climbed at a fair pace and after about 4 hours (instead of the expected 5) of volcanic rock below our feet we arrived at our mountain hut. I already heard that the sleeping spaces would be small, but I was not prepared for ...
