Icelandair Nordica Hotel Reykjavík

Good Morning Reykjavik! We arrived at the Hilton and got checked in. I snapped a quick picture snapped from the window of my hotel room..... not bad! I am starting to feel jet lag as I didn't sleep well on the plane. Val on the other hand had an entire row to herself so she is feeling bright eyed and bushy tailed! Searching for a place to eat breakfast at 8:00 AM on a Sunday here was an adventure. We quickly learned what to expect for an Iceland breakfast. Here is what we had at the buffet......

Well we finally made it to Iceland! The 8+ hour layover at JFK sucked, but the flight was pretty good. We sat next to a geology professor from Penn State named Pete who was coming to Iceland with 2 students to do research. After we landed in Keflavik fate finally caught up with me. It's the end of day one and we are exhausted! After a much-needed nap, Kent and I headed out to explore downtown Reykjavik. By the time we left the hotel it was already 6pm, so there wasn't much open. It took us about twenty to thirty minutes to walk to the center of town and the main shopping street, Austurstraeti. We got up early today to go on our tour. I had obviously forgotten what kind of tour it was because we kept looking at the tour buses coming to pick up people for other tours. I could not have imagined that my first week could be so perfect, except for the rain! We walked behind crashing waterfalls, dipped our hand in 190° hot springs, took a boat tour on a glacier lagoon full of icebergs, hiked to a glacier, and up mountain ridges. The country is incredibly beautiful and clean - spring water comes out of the tap! Hey - don´t complain about gas prices in the USA--it´s about $8.00 a gallon here and we paid $30 for an order of nachos! There are sheep everywhere - but...
