Sudurlandsbraut 2 Reykjavík, Iceland, 108, 444-5000
Good Morning Reykjavik! We arrived at the Hilton and got checked in. I snapped a quick picture snapped from the window of my hotel room..... not bad! I am starting to feel jet lag as I didn't sleep well on the plane. Val on the other hand had an entire row to herself so she is feeling bright eyed and bushy tailed! Searching for a place to eat breakfast at 8:00 AM on a Sunday here was an adventure. We quickly learned what to expect for an Iceland breakfast. Here is what we had at the buffet......
Reykjavík, Iceland aimeewrightThe scenery was absolutely breathtaking, which is reflected in the fact I took 1802 photographs. I have already sifted through them and reduced the number to 806 - still a lot, but all worth it. We started off in the blue lagoon near the airport, a thermal swimming pool with silicon mud to put on your face and a hot geyser spouting out steam in the middle of the pool. We spent the morning there and then drove to our first destination via the Thingvellir National Park where the American and Eu...
Reykjavík, Iceland dagmarWell we finally made it to Iceland! The 8+ hour layover at JFK sucked, but the flight was pretty good. We sat next to a geology professor from Penn State named Pete who was coming to Iceland with 2 students to do research. After we landed in Keflavik fate finally caught up with me. Icelandair lost my pink suitcase with ALL my clothes in it! I got a "consolation prize" - a small black bag with assorted toiletries and some scary-looking panties and they promised me they would deliver the suitca...
Reykjavík, Iceland kentandmelanieIt's the end of day one and we are exhausted! After a much-needed nap, Kent and I headed out to explore downtown Reykjavik. By the time we left the hotel it was already 6pm, so there wasn't much open. It took us about twenty to thirty minutes to walk to the center of town and the main shopping street, Austurstraeti. The first order of business was to get some dinner. After passing several restaurants, we finally chose to go to a small bar on the corner of Austurstraeti and Ingólfstraeti calle...
Reykjavík, Iceland kentandmelanieWe got up early today to go on our tour. I had obviously forgotten what kind of tour it was because we kept looking at the tour buses coming to pick up people for other tours. Then this overgrown jeep with giant tires pulls up and the driver goes inside the hotel and we're thinking, "That can't be ours, can it?" Well, sure enough the guys comes out and asks if a Melanie is there and we end up riding in the Super Jeep with another couple from Mexico on our all-day tour. The tour guide's name ...
Reykjavík, Iceland kentandmelanieHello everybody! It´s almost midnight here in Reykjavik, but it´s still not dark outside. It´s really just getting dusky about now. We had an amazing day today on a super jeep tour with another couple from Mexico. The tour guide was a native Icelander with a quick, often sarcastic wit, who sought adventure and kept us awake with his erratic driving! We got the walk in the continental divide (where the Eurasian plate is moving away from the American plate), saw geyirs, walked on a glacier, saw...
Reykjavík, Iceland kentandmelanieDay 16: July 22, 2007 Reykjavík I got up at 7:00. Some people had already struck their tents. Motley and Curtis returned around 5:30. The girls had returned before 1:00. All had adventures too numerous to recount here. Camp was struck and ready to load by the time Magnus arrived. We loaded up and were on our way to the Bláa Lonið (Blue Lagoon) by 9:45. A lot of us dozed a little on the way out. I took some fotos of the shoreline and Reykjanes lavas as we wen...
Reykjavík, Iceland magellanicI could not have imagined that my first week could be so perfect, except for the rain! We walked behind crashing waterfalls, dipped our hand in 190° hot springs, took a boat tour on a glacier lagoon full of icebergs, hiked to a glacier, and up mountain ridges. The country is incredibly beautiful and clean - spring water comes out of the tap! Hey - don´t complain about gas prices in the USA--it´s about $8.00 a gallon here and we paid $30 for an order of nachos! There are sheep everywhere - but...

Reykjavík, Iceland thephibbles
... have a reputation for long showers) it feels fantastic to have a long luxurious shower as there is no shortage of water in Iceland. Reykjavik is a city of around 200,000 people and at first sight is not terribly beautiful or photogenic. It is mainly made up of modern houses and buildings, although there are some lovely old houses in some areas. Many of these houses have exterior walls of corrugated iron, painted in different colours. I guess this material was cheap to buy and ...
