A travel blog entry by rolandandlinda on Aug 18, 2014

      Monday 18 August

A cool day with on and off drizzle. Time to move on from the Meuse and
head towards the Vosges and the National Parks of Alsace Lorraine, north of
Mulhouse. Thought about stopping in a campsite in the Lorraine National Park
but decided to keep heading south, through Nancy and on to the Ballons des
Vosges National Park. Good choice. Ended up at Camping les Jonquilles, with ...

... us to a trip on a ferry across the lake, which was a nice surprise! France is always good, feels close to home and we've missed their baking. We're at a small site run by 'Stan' just south of Nancy. It's all NL here (we have to call the that now as Gen only refers to people by the letters on their car) only one or two D's and no GB's (that's what Gen seeks out!) We left Spain and set off to drive across the French countryside to meet back up with Luke, Kate and the kids and watch the Tour De France. After a long 3 days of driving we eventually arrived in Gerardmer, a ski town during winter that is surrounded by beautiful pines trees, a huge lake and gorgeous French houses. The weather wasn't perfect on arrival, but it didn't stop us from walking up the hill to check out the best position for us to watch the riders come in to ...

Today climbed to col du schucht above gerardmer. Tough climb after 2 weeks off the bike - luckly missed the rain but saw the amazing TDF caravan before the stage. Got into gerardmer yesterday to catch end of stage 8 - saw Stuart O'Grady and the green edge ...

... 10:30 am. We drove through the beautiful landscape of the Voges and "la route des grands Crue" where you find hundreds of vineyards. Lots of chateaus and gorgeous old villages along these roads. We felt like stopping and staying around this area to visit but we have appointments with our friends, so we'll just have to come back here without the caravan and a small tent than we would be here in 5 driving. At 5:30 pm we arrived at the house of Hubert and ...
