... That is not to say that it wasn't spectacluar, as it was. I had to shift my thinking to imagining how the palace would have looked in Louis XIV day, with the whole theatrical performance occurred, with courtiers and attendants all vying to attend to his every need. The Hall of Mirrors is truely grand and a sight to behold. The viewing of the palace takes about an hour or so and then you are free to wander the beautiful gardens, which to ...
Paris, Île-de-France, France jaq123... visited for a while. And then, as time passed, they were utterly forgotten. And now, they are a tourist attraction. A skull. A bone. In a deep tomb with a labyrinth of access tunnels surrounding them. For the vast majority, nothing remains of their life. For a minute few, maybe something they invented or wrote or painted. But nothing of themselves. .... Pretty bizarre. Samuel and Ella are slightly frightened by all the bones. But not much. Just enough to walk with some trepidation. Ella ...
Paris, France styrsky... by the lovely Marion, without whom, I'd still be at the airport, probably in tears. Our digs in Paris aren't as hot as the place in Seoul, but I like it anyway. First thing we did was decide to go and get some dinner... ON BIKES!! Not the actual dinner, we were just going to ride somewhere and eat. It was the best thing EVER! I was riding a bike (you can rent them for a single ...
Paris, Île-de-France, France jimbojohnson... Sunday of every month all of the national museums (and there are many !) are free to the public. I decided that I had to take advantage and planned accordingly, skipping any daytrips. Me and a group of girlfriends set out for the Picasso Museum at 9 a.m. on Sunday morning hoping to beat the crowds also on the prowl for free museum entries. Taking into account that most respected art museums have at least a few Picasso pieces and that the Picasso Museum in Barcelona is ...
Paris, Île-de-France, France ilona1229... metro ride back. When we got in, I thought I'd lay down for about 30 minutes and then get up and journal or read or something. I woke up three hours later at 12 when John got back. His friend Amelie and him just walked all around the city at night. He showed us the pictures and it looked amazing! (Like the pyramids at the Louvre without a person there.) We all laid down. I couldn't really sleep anymore, but the rest felt good.
Paris, France lncollins05... break.
Paris, France carpeau... castle that dominates the city - it was quite a hike, but the views from the battlements over the town were outstanding. The old town inside the castle walls served as a bit of a tourist trap, selling swords, tshirts, and all kinds of medievel junk. I didn't really care, though - it was like being 10 again. We took a leisurely stroll through the harrowing Inquisition Museum, and afterwards settled down for a meal at one of the city's many tourist-catering ...
Paris, France ceriseParis is a 13 hour bus ride from San Sebastian. Believe me this feels like a lifetime after a night in the pub, and with very little sleep. We only just got up in town to make the bus......... Anyway enough *****ing about bus rides (I have a lot more to come). Paris is cool. Lots of people everywhere, lots to see and do. Chris had caught the same bus as me and luckily we were booked at the same ...
Paris, France georgehahnNothing big to report... One last vaparetto ride through the Grand Canal (the Champs-Elysees of Venice, if you will) for as many photos as my pride would allow me to take... it was a wonderful way to say Ciao to Venice. We said good-bye to our favorite hotelier and promised him a belt buckle the size of his head when he requested we ...
