..I have seen a number of variations in the way that Nurnberg is spelled...Nurenerg, Nuremberg, Nuernberg....i prefer Nurnberg... I was lucky enough to get a lift with a friend (living in Nurnberg) from Belgium to Nurnberg from where I will get a train to my sister's place in Jena. As we left Bois le Comte and the Ardennes at 3pm the sun was already lying low in a crystal blue sky, I'm looking forward to seeing the area in March when i return for ritual no. 3. Out car journey to look us throu...

Original entry on 17/12/07: Hi all, just quickly sending this update from my phone to let you know that after more than 24 hours of travel we've made it safe and sound to Nuremburg. The ICE train this morning was fantastic as always and the temperature here is a chilly 1 degree! We're all tired but only halfway through the day and trying to stay up to a reasonable hour this evening. I'm now updating this entry on Dad's laptop from the room at the Ibis Hotel Altstadt in Nuremberg. We've all be...

Nuremburg Kultur

Another morning in Nuremburg, another breakfast. In contrast to yesterday's chain hotel standard breakfast we went down to the local German chain bakery nearby where we were able to indulge in some of the local pastry specialties. Dad and I particularly enjoyed the "Frankonian" (local region) stollen, which was surprisingly moist, even with the absence of marzipan. The first activity we had lined up for the day was a visit to the former Nazi Rally Grounds, where there is a museum focusing on ...

A Wonderland for Walkers

... meet up, we headed for the high-speed ICE train of the Deutsche Bahn that would get us to Frankfurt in no time at all.

Pam and Glenn Said:

We both enjoyed this medieval town dating back to 1071. We walked the old town within the walls and saw vistas of the town from the old castle. We enjoyed great espresso, one of Chad’s favorites at a little café. We now get to ride the DB train to Frankfurt.

Nuremburg and Glass Blowing Excursions

... or visa versa. We got to go though the house to see how they lived back in their day. At the end of the tour, we were taken to the workshop and shown which elements made certain colors, then got to watch a demonstration of a lady making art.

After the tour of the house, we hurried to the toy museum that was just down the street. We had less than an hour to explore the 4 floor museum, but we ended up making the time stretch as long as we could, goofing off every chance we got (we ...

A Quiet Sunday

... and took buses to Nuremberg. We visited the Zeppelin Field where the big Nazi Rallies were held and the Hall of Justice where the Nuremberg Trials took place. Bought a souvenir pin at Market Square and had cokes at a bistro while waiting for the bus to take us back to the ship.

... There was even an ex hab on the team (Andre Nasredine) who scored a goal for us! To make the night even better we won 6-2 with some awesome goals and awesome saves!

Very happy with our decision to return to Nuremburg for the hockey game we left the following morning for Vienna. It was a long trip so we cut it in half and spent a night in Linz, Austria. Another gorgeous place to pass right on through!

I'm tired of train travel

... if you’re lucky.

So we checked out and made it to the train station in time to catch the 10:55 am train, getting to Nuremburg about noon. We left our bags in a locker at the train station, but I had to pay a second time because I accidentally left my Nuremburg guidebook materials in the locker the first time. The second time I realized I had also left the train schedules for getting to Rothenburg. But we just checked the timetables in an automatic ticket machine ...

King of the castle, but where's my Spanish Queen?

... the Nazi Documentation Centre later, any other museum I visit is basically free.

Before lunch, I squeezed in the castle - kind of boring but granted, I didn't pay to go inside the exhibits, because I really didn't care. I quickly popped into St. Lawrence church, only to briefly escape the heat, before having a fast-food lunch.

For dessert, I had some rockin' melon gelato. I desperately needed to lower my body ...

... normally is returning, I’ve gotta find a new place, but I really have grown to love my location and room. It’s tough to find a furnished apartment for cheap in the center of town. Hopefully it works out (and in the meantime he told me I can stay an extra month in his room!)

The rest of the last few weeks aren’t really worth mentioning. Teaching classes, going to work, ripping my pants in my bike chain on the way to work ...
