life in Lund

... min by train from lund. it is also an old city, though i didn't spent much time there and the time i did spend was in the dark. still, it's much bigger than lund, has some very nice buildings and churches and has a canal system. that night we went out for sugata's last night in sweden. like many medieval universities, the university is organised by nations. originally, the nation you joined was related to the where you actually ...

Broke ass ovens and Nazis

... were jauntily following the mass wave of demonstrators as they made their way past our building following the Nazis to their destination - after about 2 or 3 hours of slinging insults, things on fire, and occasionally fists at one another right in front of my building. Ok, so that's all the excitment for now - look out for more sometime relatively soon though - next week I'm headed to Brussels to visit w/ my friend from Portland before she heads home.

The learning curve isn't over yet...

... number to get a phone 'cause it would be alot cheaper that way. I finally got the number last week and so came fully equipped and mentally prepared to walk away with a phone in my hands this afternoon. When I got there, the nice fellow told me that I also needed a Swedish ID card in order to get the discount, and that I could get one at the bank right down the street. So, I went to the bank and queued. For 45 minutes. (Queuing = taking a ...

Amazon does not deliver to Sweden. Swedish ...

The Park.

So, today I met with all of the professors in my department for the first time, as well as all five incoming grad students. You know, I don't know... but I think that class size is a little too big for my tastes - I don't think we'll get enough one on one time with the teachers like this...I'm kind of worried. Anyway, as has become my tradition, I attempted to walk back home from the economics department once ...

The secret behind beautiful Scandinavian skin

... pressure from the US government to "normalize" Christiania - why can't people just leave others alone? What business does the US government have to interfere? Personally, I'd never live here, but the people seem to be happy and though crime has been on the rise in recent years, generally there is no trouble here. Though it seems to have changed, I do admire what it originally stood for - a free city of idealists that promoted ...

What a deal! Travelling the world for free.

... not to approach her again and hope I would get to my destination before an inspector would come. I followed her route along my map. I got slightly anxious the closer I got to my destination. I could just see an inspectior jumping on the stop before mine and fining me the exact amount I got from SAS - 150 Euros. Easy come. Easy go. I could so see that happening. Lucky for me, it didn't. An inspector didn't show up and I saved myself another 20 euros. Time to check out Berlin Dino

... orthodox church in the city. And less than hundred metres away there is one of the most imposing buildings in entire København, Marmorkirken or Marble Church, officially called Frederiks kirke or Frederik's Church. Construction of this neo-Baroque sanctuary of precious Norwegian marble began in 1749. The church stood unfinished from 1770 to 1874 due to budget constraints. It was finally completed and consecrated in 1894. Around the exterior are 16 statues of various religious ...

I Fancy Some Amusement, Perhaps in a Park Setting

... oooh! Scary water!). These are completely enclosed and lifeless bodies of water, but they do add a little something to the view. I crossed over one on myway to a botanical garden that Silas recommended. The "Botanical Garden" turned out to be nothing mote than a long pond with grtass and trees on the sides, but I was highly entertained nonetheless because it seemed that there was a Lord of the Rings themed party occuring in the wooded ...

... south through Norway from Allesund to Dombas, and it has to have been the most beautiful journey ever. Hundreds of waterfalls surrounded us, all the way. A lot were small admittedly, probably only measuring their flow in hundreds of litres per second, but the big boys, wow. Every time I stopped for a quick photo and said to Claire 'Sorry, that's the last one, honest', we'd then get to an even more spectacular fall. After that Oslo a ...
