... its own bathroom). I was very excited to see a cellar. Have only ever seen these spaces in the movies, or in those news reports about weird people keeping their children locked up. So I was somewhat surprised that the cellar area was so huge (the whole footprint of the house), has a bar area, a heating room, a laundry and bathroom and large rumpus style area. Very quiet down there too - great if your kids were into drums!!!

At last we got the chance to spend more than a couple of days in Maastricht! My cousin Annelies and her husband Jules live there and it's a wonderful city full of history and culture. We really enjoyed the hospitality of our hosts and Jen and Matt were able to visit for my birthday. Sharan and Peter Burrow were only an hour away in Brussels so we got to spend a weekend with them as well as cousins Kees and Ans who live in the rural town of Berlicum and Sanne and Dan in Zierikzee ...

We arrived in Andernach early this morning. We did not have any time to explore here. We went in a coach for 2 hours to Maastricht, one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands, some opted for the Casemates tour, a network of underground tunnels, we just opted for the walking tour around the town. Before we got into the town, the coach made a detour so we could see Andre Rieu's home, even stopping so we could get out & take a photo. The weather was pretty mild about 14C, but ...
