... Chambord and I paid almost 50 Euro (AUD 100ish) for a salad, glass of wine and tea with lemon... Really, I was paying for the privilege of being able to use Pat's laptop with an uninterrupted view of Chambord!

We visited Chateau de Chenonceau (C16) in the afternoon and were confronted by thousands of tourists, even at 4.30 Luckily by 6pm the crowds were starting to diminish (the Chateau opens until 8pm in Summer), allowing us to better appreciate its ...

Oui Oui!!

Thank God for the GPS and the Audi s4!! This place is really nice... our room is austrian themed. We arrived and checked the place out, we had dinner at the hotel restaurant...the menu was in French so we had a fun time translating everything....I have un petite phrase book that really helps!! We also went down the road to the cellars (cave in french), and had a wine tasting and bought some wine. Tommorrow we are going to see some Chateaux!!!

Day 8 - Reuniting and that

... down on a bacon con carne random meal which was suprisingly nice then did a create of beer in an attempt to rebuild team spirit. Obviously we talked quite philosophically about stuff none of us remember. It was a clear hot night and we decided to leave off the waterproofing for our tents. Yes, yes it did then decide to rain in the night.

Day 7 - Olly, looking after a toddler on a trike

... to sleep due to spending our time looking for Olly. Looking at the state of us and not sure if our friend even existed the police decided to take us to a drugs rehabilitation centre. Here we were given gone off pancakes and sheets with three different types of stain on them. There was also a slug on the ceiling. . . . . . Olly was spending the night in a hotel. Tempted by sleeping on the floor I braved the matress and fell asleep laughing (like a metal)

... my favorite castle was not really a castle but more of a hotel it was still really interesting because it was were Leonardo da-Vinci died and spent most of his life inventing his magnificent machines. Dotted around the gardens were working life size recreations of his inventions. Some included his tank which you could spin around and his version of a machine gun which you could fire blanks at people. Since the first castle ...

... different to see and some were bigger then others. It was a great time seeing all the castles and the village was really nice and old.
The two that I really liked were, Chateau de Breze and Leonardo’s da Vinci’s house. Chateau de Breze was cool because it had all these underground caves and metal bars where they shot a gun or crossbow. That’s right i said ...

France Day 18 - "Better than Versailles"

... Guenola suggested we come here. Perhaps on the way back we will make a stop. For now, we must make our lunch date in Ste. Suzanne. We expect Ste. Suzanne to be another small town, but as we round the corner, we see before us a beautiful city, with well preserved stone walls, and what looks to be the remains of a castle atop a rolling French hill. Its gorgeous. ... We pull in to town and find a grocery store and boulangerrie on the same block. Perfect ...

France Day 6 - Huet Family, Parce, and monks!

... here in France, ... better than Spain actually. Thank you Bruce! ... We navigate to Parce easily enough, but their house and street aren't coming up on the map, so Vincent runs to the town center to meet us. The house. Have I mentioned their house? Its ... AMAZING. The house itself extends through the backyard up against a big wall. Looks cool. I ask about it. Turns out it that the wall is the actual foundation left behind after the destruction of the town's castle during the ...

France Day 5 - Market and Le Mans

... is gorgeous. WOW. I hate that my tiny camera can't capture the full glory of these sights. ... For the one millionth time I tell Janice how awesome it is that I read "Pillars of the Earth" last year. She bought it for me as a gift and I did not want to read it. Its HUGE. Probably the longest book I've ever read cover to cover. But so worth it... and perfect timing for this trip. Its like I'm walking down the streets, seeing exactly the sort of world thats described in the ...

Sunday 15th June 2008 Into the Loire Valley and Provence. Hi Everyone, We hope you have all been well and the Aussie weather is not chilling you all to much. We're really enjoying the beautiful summer days here of around 25 degrees, clear blue skies and nice cool breeze. The journey across the countryside is equally enjoyable, with views of vineyards as far as the eye can see, mountains with chateaus, churches, roman ruins and medieval towns atop, the ...
