Today I crossed another wish off my bucket list. Ever since I was a little girl I remember my mum talking about wanting to go to Switzerland. Sadly my mum never made it, but I swore that I would do it for her. There were a few tears as we went over the border and I saw the alps for the first time. Switzerland is all I had heard about and imagined. Yes, it is very expensive, yes the lakes ...

... old town, got the bikes and explored the old harbour area. We rode back to the hotel, and were easily faster than the cars caught in heavy traffic along the coastal road. A couple of huge ferries came into port. Passengers, cars, motor homes and trucks disembarking. We got a pizza and ate it down on the beach. After Flo took us to this place called the Junction which is a river people float down and some jump off the bridge into the water, I decided to sit that part out after my last jumping experience. The water again was so clear and refreshing, unlike any river I have been in before. There were many people here with bbq's and picnics, ...

It is my second day in Switzerland, but I feel I still have to bring closure on my month walking through France. I won't detain you long.

A feature of the landscape in the Pas de Calais is the preponderance of little wayside chapels housing statues of Christ or The Madonna. Most are in good order despite their age. Even more frequently seen were roadside crucifixes of varying size and ornateness, each tanding as testament to the strong Catholic tradition that ...

... raining when I arrived. I've only been to Switzerland once before on one of those Contiki tours so I sort of knew what to expect but then I was a little surprised when all the signs were in French - I can bumble my way through German (as you would expect) but not French. Of course Lausanne is right on the border of Switzerland and France so it is to be expected that everybody speaks French. I stayed with Kathy and her partner Carsten for 3 nights ...
