... that day that turned into such a massacre. The American cemetery has more than 10,000 soldiers buried there and is a beautiful park-like setting right bordering on cliffs of the beach. All the small towns we went through were somehow damaged or totally destroyed by the war which was something the tour guide was continually pointing out .. even with all the beautiful structures you can not help but think how much more fabulous it must have been before the war.
Normandy, France pathenger... tears filled my eyes, I swallowed back a deluge. Every white cross represented men and women, teens really, most of them. They gave it all! Their mother's gave, their siblings gave, their church gave, their father's gave, their towns gave...
Who was I to stand at their graves and not weep for them. It became personal. It is no longer history.
It is a part of me.
... a 9-hole golf course to an aquatic centre with three swimming pools. Veillon beach is just 1.5km away and is accessible either on foot or via the seasonal tourist train. Teenagers can meet at ‘The Spot’ where a range of daytime and evening activities are organised, or they can take advantage of the bicycle hire, archery and flying ...
Normandy, France pv_blog... hotels have spas that are open to the public. The Algotherm Thalassotherapy Spa in Deauville is especially well recommended being centrally located and offering a wide range of treatments. Getting there Normandy has more cross-channel ferry routes than any other region ...
Normandy, France pv_blogThursday April 16th: departed Britain on the 8:30pm sailing from Portsmouth to St Malo. We spent the week in Brittany with Jie's mum and her husband Steve, chilled out - ate and drank very well and dug stones out of the garden. Tuesday and Wednesday were largely taken up with our initiation into the St Nicolas de Pelem pensioners walking club - not an easy task.
Guingamp, Brittany, France jiewu... no one was home so we drove away. As the day wore on we were finding each place we went to was booked which sent us back to the (thankfully) open Tourist Info desk. The lady called a gite for me and sent me on my way with a booking. As we wandered around looking for the place we found ourselve winding back down the narrow path to the, now home, eccentric owner and a vacancy on the top(!!!) floor. Creaking our way to the top we had a marvelous ...
Ploubazlanec, Brittany, France marybcWe spent a week with Christophe's relatives in Locquirec which is a quaint coastal town in the NW of France. We had a fantastic time just relaxing, eating lots and hanging out with the family. Thank you so much Jacky, Francoise, Valerie, Olivier, Leah and Estelle for your generosity and taking such good care of us. You have such a warm home and we look forward to seeing you again on the way back!
Locqu, Île-de-France, France saktophe... Regardless we dutifully spread out our towels and attempted to lay on them to no avail. With limitless enthusiasm the rocks seemed to conspire to violate me anally. So, after eating lunch I immediately set off on a 3 hour photo taking trek with Antoine. Another great thing about this beach is that, when the tide is out, which it was, the water is at least half a kilometer away from the beach. and ...
Plougrescant, Brittany, France mdoddr... the water. We made it back up the hill to the monument and cemetery. There was a great big map of all the D-Day movements. Carentan was carved into that great curve of stone as it's cruciality is into me. The red marker that held the place of the 101st Airborne held my gaze and halted my thoughts. I turned from the map to the cemetery--behind two tall flags to be greated with a wave of sleet-hail-snow. Those clouds we ...
