Arçais, Poitou-Charentes, France cariverga... our cheese (of course), but had cassis instead of wine for a change. We also had a little friend - a feral cat decided to come and play around my bike.

Stopped a little early of our goal this evening as there was a campground on route. Not having any reference as to what may lie ahead makes things a bit more complicated. Every night is a bit of a gamble of: do we stop now or do we risk it? Some tourist ...
Maillezais, Pays de la Loire, France 2totangoOk so I'm getting a bit behind in my blogs as I've arrived at my uni now and want to write about that. I am having a really good time and re-living being a fresher, which is kind of funny! I also have my laptop set up now - yay! So as a simple solution I'm going to tell you about the food I cooked by posting some photos of it ...
La Rochelle, Poitou-Charentes, France hannahfosterHello!

A rather culinary themed entry today as I've just spent a week at Tomlins, which was a vegetarian cookery school in France. It is out in the french countryside, about half an hour from La Rochelle. La Rochelle is a largish town on the seaside and very very pretty. White sandstone buildings, towers, an old cathedrale, lots of tiny sailing boats and blue blue ocean. It is where rich french people go for their summer holidays apparently. They also very ...
La Rochelle, Poitou-Charentes, France hannahfoster... space between the wheelie bins and the no parking signs beside the captinerie

We'd been on the road four hours instead of 40 minutes and covered 250km.
There are definite lessons to be learned from this:
1. Do not bother if you have a lazy lunchtime chat first and can't hope to arrive before 2 or 3pm.
2. Plan at least three sites first, especially in a barge on wheels, as you might not squeeze into the first couple of aires you find.
Rochefort, Poitou-Charentes, France therv... it was awful and not terribly warm. Not a great start on my gastronomic trip, it can only get better from here. Much later I met my roomy, I knew I had one but she didn't turn up until much later in the evening, well nearly bedtime. She's a nice Wisconsin girl, Norah, doing her travelling after university and before settling down into a job etc. It was nice to have a chat in English, there isn't much English ...
La Rochelle, Pays de la Loire, France laineebee... of heels. It was 6:30pm and I was basically ready to go. The bus didn't go until 6:58, so I was only waiting until I could reasonably go and rally the others, when Bonnie comes running upstairs. "There's something for you, downstairs," she said. So down I went, and there was a young guy with a giant basket of deep red flowers. He brought them upstairs for me and I have put ...
La Rochelle, France french_rhubarb... the answer to the question is found in the description". Here I was thinking I was just misunderstanding the French, but no. It was confusing in any language. We (Bek, Amy & I) then wandered into the Old Port and I bought highlighters and CHINESE 5 SPICE. Sorry, I am excited. We had to go to a special world spice ...
La Rochelle, France french_rhubarb... midwinter. Old friends welcomed me in Perth and spent some time showing me around, inclusive of the real Australian way of life. Despite their reputation for being "no nonsense people and telling you straight between the eyes" I cannot recall any one occasion where I noticed it upsetting me. And then ....my visa was coming to expiry date, so time to return to Europe. A grand journey which I feel privileged to have been able to do. Regardless of ...
La Rochelle, France wherenext... an oasis in about an hour. Poor Matt though as the only topless women have been 40+.....hopefully Spain and the rest of the south will be easier on his eyes.

We enjoyed cheap and delicious seafood, mussels being the norm here, while buskers, artists, and craftsmen entertained close by.

The weather was hazy and hot, of course, making the days look like a dream world ...so all in all a fantastic experience ...
