Köln or Cologne: Smells like fun!!

Okay, okay Cologne.......we get it.....you have a really big cathedral!!! It's impossible not to notice the huge tower that looms over you anywhere you are in Köln. This cathedral is the largest in Germany and one of the largest on the continent of Europe. It just so happens it smacks you in the face as you exit the central train station. Both Shannon and I exclaimed, " Oh my god!!" as we left the train station for our hotel. I couldn't even see the top of it. You definitely can't get a sunta...

Jager, jager everywhere...and nuns and cathedrals

Not a whole lot of anything new to report here. Today was the first day of the 5th season in Germany, carnival season. At 11:11 am there was a parade and some kind of speech by the mayor or someone important. I didn't go because I was far too occupied sleeping. I did, however, go a bit later to catch a few people wandering around in costumes and see a band playing in the city square. The one in Dusseldorf is supposedly not near as awesome as the ...

... all-we-could-eat, home-made strudel! Meanwhile, I went on a wild scavenger hunt across the city in an attempt to find an internet cafe where I could print out my graduate school application. Wish me luck!<br> After Salzburg, Katie and I would once again part with the rest of the crew for a few days while they traveled the Black Forest. But before we split, we all had to share a liter of beer or so in the Hofbrauhaus (Katie may never have heard of ...

... of a generous donor from the 1300's. The actual skulls of the Three Wise Men (complete with crowns) are apparently kept in the giant gold box behind the altar. The bones were apparently bought by the local count in the 12th century, and the Cathedral built around them. Though we saw the fancy gold and jewel encrusted box, we were not allowed to see the bones.<br> What a fabulous church. If you were going to see three Gothic cathedrals in ...

Cologn, home of the biggest F@!$ing Cathedral Yet

... headed back to Cologne about 5:00pm and met up with a few other people. We chatted for a bit, and at about 10:00pm we took a walk to the Dom Cathedral to see it all lit up at night. It was even more impressive in the dark. We called it a night about 2:00am and I was off to Heidelburg the next day. Really Cologne was quit realxing, I needed it after my time in Berlin and Hamburg. People told me that Hieldelburg was Postcard Germany at its best, they weren't lying..............

"Bardo" at the Bar

... in Germany so far don't normally wander around, we found this to be somewhat odd. Though the dog was quite friendly and even came over to greet us, we found it peculiar that the owner was allowing him to roam around wherever he wanted. As we continued watching the dog, intrigued by what he was going to do next, we saw something you would not believe. The dog actually crawled through the legs of the people sitting at the bar until he found an open spot. From there, he stood ...
