... rental about 3:00 for a light snack after three hours of touring. We then walked the grounds and hillside forest area next to the property which provided a great view of the surrounding areas. We gathered some kindling for a fire in the fireplace of our rental. The old stone cottage is pretty cool in the evening and a fire in the living room feels great.

Tonight for dinner we had a little North Atlantic salmon with potatoes and vegetables. Quick and easy. Great first day in ...

    Day 71 - Provence Provincial

Monaco was cloudy and grey this morning when we woke. It is November after all. We checked out of the Port Palace Hotel about 10:00 and departed for Provence. The drive was about three hours and 25€ in tolls. While all part of the travel experience, the cost is a bit aggravating for those of us who are use to "freeways".

We zigzagged our way from the top of the gorge to the bottom, ...

... croissants and breads, not to mention all the season's fresh produce. As we're here again in May, the stalls are loaded with fragrant strawberries and asparagus of every shape and thickness, from fattest white to slim bright green. We also bought a piece of the local fougasse to try, this variation of the pretzel-looking pastry was speckled with black olives and delicious. After stopping in a little square for coffee, we headed out of town to photograph ...

    Our Morning in Arles

... it, it smelled wrong. So I passed it over to Bryan to double check the ingredients. Apparently, although I had checked thoroughly for milk, I missed "fromage blanc" (white cheese) as the second ingredient. I explained that I didn't know that word. And then Bryan threw my hummus in the trash. :(

    * Fun fact to know about Arles: this is where Van Goff cut off his ear. But we passed on going to the hospital where it happened.
