    ... has Charlemagne living here briefly, in 800AD, to establish the monastery, and reputedly marking out the hills with his buttocks. The walk around the village is the Pied de Charlemagne, literally, his footsteps.

    Finally, locals take kindly to our attempts at French, humouring us and filling in the gaps where even a Franglais word won't suffice.

    ... and a thriving port ( straight out the Rough Guide). In recent times an ethnic flash point and now controversially the home of a nuclear power station. We can't see it! It's got the lot!     ... stairs there will be???!!!???

    Well, when I got to this station it was the closest platform....Yay!!!! So, I only had to wait in line to buy my extra reserved tickets. And, Yes!!! The line was a mile long.... and I saw that there was another train leaving sooner, but there were certainly at least 20 people before me, but there were 4 customer service agents.
